Air CPU coolers

Need help with ideas on what CPU cooler to get my friend, I don't know much about air coolers, because personally I don't like the look of them, but he's looking at a 4670k, and I was first thinking of an AIO watercooling system like the thermaltake extreme 2.0/ corsair h100i, but I figured since he's a beginner it'd be much easier to do an air cooler so less can go wrong/ break/fail.

 

Looking at around 50-90$ for the cooler if you can show benchmarks/avg temps with them that'd help too, I'll probably be helping him put everything together over skype when it shows up, so the simpler the better.

NH-D14 is one of the best air coolers you can buy.

AIO's are not that complicated and can be simpler than some heat sinks, if you really want a heatsink I love the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 2.

For that price range, the top air coolers are the Noctua NH-D14, Thermaltake Silver Arrow and Phanteks PH-TC14.

Well if your looking at a lga 1150 cpu the noctua U14S is a good cooler and performs better than the nh-d14 unless you use lga 2011

And that list is? You'd want a cooler that not only looks good with the system, but also fits as well.

My vote goes for U14S. Haven't tested with oc yet, but max speed limited to 70% max temp is 65C on stress test (4770K). Gaming it stays under 60C.

If you care about aesthetics like I do I would go with something like the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 2 or the Phanteks PH-TC14PE

Ended up getting him a dark rock 2, so he can OC a bit if he wants to, and it'll match the color scheme of his build (red/black) also got him some corsair quiet edition sp 120/ af 120/af 140's so he can put the red rings on em and have everything match for the most part.  

 

He ended up getting a 760, corsair air 540, 4670k+ msi gd45 gaming mobo, 8gb of corsair vengeance 1600mhz, and a samsung 840 evo 250gb ssd + 1tb seagate barracuda, and some white LED's for his case to make sure he accents all the red/black. I think ima help him get some custom sleeves too in red/black to make everything look really clean.  Majority of his parts show up today so I can help him put it together
