Decent SSD for XMAS?

Go to solution Solved by Dredgy,

Quick question, what is the difference in quality etc between the two of them? if the sandisk is worth the extra £6 then I may as well if it's worth it and noticeably different.

The difference between SSDs is quite difficult to tell. That said, I've recently been using a Samsung 850 Evo that I can feel is noticeably slower than my Sandisk Extreme IIs and Extreme Pros in every day tasks (I do 4K RAW video editing so lots of large file transfers)

In terms of raw specs they are essentially the same, though the SanDisk is slightly faster in every respect and is pretty much the limit of what SATA is capable of. Most of that will be seen in sequential transfers though - so copying files and loading large games and applications. Warranty is also 10 years - these things are rock solid and will last much longer than you'll need it to.

You aren't going to go wrong with any of the drives I mentioned. I just threw the Extreme Pro in the mix because it's a very well regarded enthusiast product, and as a gift, makes it look like you spent a lot more without completely destroying your budget

My brother has a decent set up atm, he's just lacking a decent/good SSD as a boot drive and then I'm sure he'd be pretty happy.

Max spend is about £80 I'm not rich lmao preferably a 250gb SSD.

Recommendations?

Sandisk Ultra II or Samsung 850 EVO are exceptional choices.

If you can stretch to about 85 pounds you will be able to get a Sandisk Extreme Pro 240GB which is absolutely top tier and a great present.

Okay, thank you for a very detailed post, I can get the EVO for £57-ish so I'll go with that. I'll mark you as solved as you provided more than a one sentence reply.
