Possible to "pair" Wireless and Ethernet for better speeds?

Dayummm

Is it possible to boost download speeds by pairing wireless speeds with the Ethernet speeds? Must you have 2 separate internet plans for it to work (if its even possible)?

I know phones can do it but I'm not sure desktops can

the correct term is call teaming

but sadly you cant team Wifi and LAN

LAN will be the first connection you will use follow by Wifi

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Not really

Dual physical lines to a single machine for more LAN bandwidth, now thats possible, but mostly unnecessary for a home network unless you do like massive file transfers constantly (which most people don't) or something along those lines

But yeah if your just looking to get faster internet speeds, no :( sorry

Now lots of businesses or very nice home networks will sometimes have a separate failover network, but thats a backup and isn't related to speed, bandwidth or generally call teaming

As a matter of fact, I don't know why I mentioned it

Can you use multiple ethernet cables for higher speeds?

you will need to invest in server grade LAN cards

and they dont come cheap and need serious cooling

In order to team/lag 2 nic's you will need a nic that supports teaming such as this: Click Me

You will also need a network router/switch that supports LACP (Link Aggregation Control Protocol). Like this

Now this will give you 2Gb if available bandwidth, however it's still limited to 1Gb per connection. The common misconception of LAG and LACP is that you double your bandwidth, when in fact all you do is increase bandwidth capacity. Think of it this way.

On a 2 lane highway you can go both ways but only at the posted limit. Now on a 4 lane highway are you going any faster? No, but more cars (connections) are able to be on the highway at the same time. That is why LACP works for servers and networks because it's about multiple connections not a single fast one.

Hope that helps.
