Hi Everyone!

Just wondering what other people's experiences have been with FPS in different areas while playing Fallout 4 with Ultra settings enabled (E.g. in the city / countryside / during battles / explosions) using fairly powerful or top of the line rigs.

To be honest I'm a bit confused why I have some drops into the 40s, 30s and (very rarely) 20s when gaming.

As a pre-note I am running the game in 3440x1440 (Predator X34 Gsync monitor)  so I know running it on 1080p would be less demanding but I honestly thought the set up below would be say min 50s average 60-70 despite the higher resolution?? Does the larger resolution hurt FPS to that big of a degree?

(I know my hardware has been superseded but I'm not in a position to upgrade right now due to $$$ as much as I would love to replace my cards with G1 980 Ti's).

4930k @ 4.4Ghz

16GB DDR 3 2400Mhz

Gigabyte GTX 980 G1 Gaming (in x2 way SLI)

Intel 730 series SSD 256Gb

OCZ Revodrive PCIe SSD 120GB

Assorted 7200RPM hard drives (storage)

Corsair RM1000 psu

I'm wanting to make the most of this monitor (has 100Hz refresh rate) but I would also ideally like to have highest graphics wherever possible.

Has anyone come across any modifications to Fallout 4's settings that can be made that give a good FPS increase for only a marginal or small reduction from say Ultra graphics?

Or is it just the game / engine having poor utilisation?

As an FYI in games like BF4 I'm almost always above 120 FPS in 3440x1440.

In Witcher 3 I don't drop below 50 FPS in 3440x1440.

I'm brand new to ultrawide / above 1080 so any tips would be much appreciated.

Again I can't beef up my system right now so any other advice would be awesome.

Might be because of the locked frame rate. For me at least, since my GPU never gets to 100% usage I get lots of frame drops in intensive scenes. If it were unlocked I'm sure I would get more, it's on the same engine as Skyrim and in that game I get over 120 FPS.

I occasionally have drops to ~35 ish FPS, it doesn't even need to be in town. Just in some places something seems to be getting rendered that is making my system chug or something.

Otherwise I am running a very stable 60FPS, not sure what that number would be uncapped, I am not going to uncap it, as ATM it breaks the damn game.

If it isn't working absolutely perfectly, according to all your assumptions, it is broken.

I usually stay above or around 60fps at 2560x1440 using one of my 970's..
I'm still working on an sli fix as forcing AFR2 causes crashes for me.

You've got the one teir up gpu from me, and one teir up monitor so I'd assume you would get similar frames per second

Higher frame rate over higher resolution.

I had too limit the fps to 100 because of the terminal bug with 144hz displays. Frames are between 50-100 1440p. Lowest were 35 and one demanding Spot. Lower Godrays improve it alot.

You're not alone, around 5% of people are having unexplainable FPS drops despite overpowered hardware.

As for me:

3570K @4.8Ghz

R9 290x @1100mhz/ 1500mhz

Installed on 256GB Samsung 830 Pro SSD

16GB of 1600Mhz CL7 RAM

I'm getting lows of 42 FPS but most of the time it stays at cap.

The new AMD beta drivers increased minimum FPS considerably, but borked some of the textures so I rolled back.

For some reason, I hit bad lows when looking through a scope at bushes. Very strange, but so rare that it doesn't bother me.

The reasons for performance difficulties seem hard to nail down, people with problems don't necessarily have anything obvious in common. It could be an audio driver, a dirty operating system, slight VRAM/ RAM/ Storage sector corruption (since the game uses texture streaming) or many esoteric things.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.
