help! intel numbers, I'm confused

Go to solution Solved by You_are_a_cunt,

if possible could you simplify it and lay it out like this?

example:

i5={BLANK}

4=generation?

690={BLANK}

K=overclock?

Ok it goes, Celeron, Pentium, i3 Dual core, i5 Quad core, i7 Quad core with Hyperthreading

The K means its an unlocked chip for overclocking

the numbers done the processor, the first number is the generation, the rest of the numbers are the model, higher numbers perform better

i3= 2cores with 4 threads. i5=4 cores no HT. i7=4 cores with 8 threads. (Or 6/12 8/16 10/20 for the real high end models)

4 = indeed generation.

690= No clue myself.

K= unocked. Meaning you can overclock it.

i5-blablabla no "K"

Not unlocked, can't be overclocked unless using base clock.

i5-blablabla with "K"

It's unlocked, can be overclocked.

i5-4690, the first number "4" is the gen, so it's fourth gen.

i5-3550, it's 3rd gen.

i5-760, 3 digit, it's 1st gen.

GTX-blablabla

R9-blablabla

No K can still be overclocked.

Stands for notihng, just like a 5 series BMW doesn't mean anything, just means its bigger than the 3 Series

Yes the last numbers are the model like a BMW 520, BMW 530 - the 5 is the series, the 30 is the engine size etc

Same for intel i3 i5 i7 are the models, the first number is the generation, ie haswell, skylake, and the last numbers are the model

Ok thank you for the help and for the GTX and R9 ,what do they stand for while you have included it?

GTX is Nvidia's line of gaming graphics cards, with the first number being series and the second being how good it is. Ti is added to the end of some cards to indicate extra power. AMD have R5, R7 and R9. R5 is just accelerating display performance, R7 is budget gamer and R9 is gamer. The first number after ther R5, R7 or R9 is series and the number after indicates power. The X after some cards indicates more power c:

i5(CPU CLASS)

As for nomenclature ending of that. Well

S = High efficiency and high performance. K = unlocked and overclockable. T = low power and medium performance, X = Extreme Edition $999 Intel CPU.
