Either you'll need to pull some cable through the walls or something like a powerline option to let you split out to the new router upstairs will work.

Agreed.

  1. Buy a powerline adaptor that will allow you to tap into the electrical wiring that's already in your house. Bear in mind that this solution is not perfect. Most products suffer from terrible attenuation, overheating, relatively high power usage, etc.
  2. STP (Shielded Twisted Pair) Cat 6 cables are currently pretty cheap for a thousand feet. You can run the cable through your walls, and then hook up your routers that way. It's cheaper, reliable, and doesn't cost you in electricity over time.

You can basically plug in the injector at the modem/router downstairs and the receiver upstairs into the new TL-WD3600 to allow you to split that connection to multiple devices and also have wifi in that room.

If your just hooking up one item, your PC via wired instead of wireless then basically replace the current router downstairs and use the powerline to give you a wired connection upstairs for the PC. And it won't affect other users on your network.

What do you mean by 6 ways power like a power bar?

Powerline needs to be plugged directly in the wall outlet on both ends for it to work properly.
