"Hackintosh"

Guest

Just wondering, in order to install hackintosh do you have to have compatible parts? Why would parts be selective?

You need compatible parts that are compatible with OSX -- not all components are compatible. Gigabyte motherbaords used to be (and may still be) the go to boards for Hackintosh systems due to compatibility reasons.

This.

Also if you go Hackintosh, it's best you go Intel/Nvidia, sadly.

Is there a list somewhere? Why would there need to be compatible parts?

Technically anything should work, but there are selective parts that are much easier to get working than others.

Look up hackintosh builds, and they will give you a good idea of what parts work well.

OS X is only made for certain components because Apple's computers are proprietary, so oddball hardware is not supported since it doesn't have to be.

AMD CPU' s are not compatible with OS X as of now.

Also, driver compatibility is another big one.

I recommend you go to http://www.hackintosh.com/ to find more information on compatibility.

It will depend on your parts...

For example apple computers generally use broadcom based wifi cards, so if your system uses an intel chip, you are out of luck.

I believe amd systems can work if boot flags are used.

But that's too difficult. Some people want it simple.

Again, you will have to do some research yourself from the link other's have provided for you. It's like installing Cyanogenmod mod or any other custom ROM on a Android device. The hardware a certain ROM works on is very specific. Same with OSX, the hardware it will work on is very specific.

anything will work you just need to be prepared to fiddle with it

a lot

OFF TOPIC: I suggest every poll from now on to have "**CK EA" option instead of "Other"

People who want it simple shoudnt be trying to build a hackintosh. It has gotten easier over the years, but isn't any walk in the park.

No! AMD graphics cards have preaty good support in MAC OS X i had hackintosh first with 7870 then 7970 :) both worked good.

Truth is that AMD CPUs are not supported! At least not in official releases. But somehow you can get AMD CPU to work in OSX i do not have experience in that.

Now i have HP probool 4540s hackintosh (one of the best laptops for hackintosh) i had to replace only wifi, everything worked out of the "install of official release EL capitan"

Computer users fall into two groups:
those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail.
