Quick question.

Go to solution Solved by Coombzy,

Sorry, I didn't mention. I've already got a current build but buying this GFX card to improve upon my existing dedicated GFX from my CPU. My PSU is 500w.

Here is the specs: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/vM3pTW

You'll be fine then.

I've decided to purchase the MSI Radeon R9 380 Gaming 4GB GDDR5 for £180 from 'Dabs'

Do I need to buy anything extra to help fit it in?

(thermal paste) - or is that for a completely different part of hardware

Thnaks, I'm an idiot when it comes to all this :)

Nope just push it into the PCI-e slot and connect the power cable

Make sure your PSU has the right connections (or you can get a molex adapter for power if not)

You don't need thermal paste, it already has thermal paste on the GPU pre applied.

You need thermal for CPU's, but for GPU's it comes pre applied (you can re apply, but it really is not necessary)

No thermal paste is needed.

Do check if you have the right cables. (6-pin or 8-pin) for PSU -> GPU

I've put all of my components on PC part picker, and there was no compatibility problems. Do I still need to check?

I am not sure if PPC check for things like 6 pin connections but its most likely ok, most modern PSUs come equipped for it

Yep, and if it says 6+2 pin it actually means 8 pin although it can be used as a 6 pin I believe.

Correct, 8 pin is a regular 6 pin with some 2 pin extender that you can fold away. It doesn't look as neat as a custom 8pin though :D
