Reference 290 w/ Kraken g10?

Go to solution Solved by afyeung,

It's definitely supported. However this mod won't run you cheap. $35+ for the bracket and $60+ for a compatible clc. Better off getting a r9 390.

Alright, so recently I saw a sapphire r9 290 with the reference cooler on newegg for 199.99

I know that the card runs at 95 degrees and sound like a hairdryer when at full fan RPM, so I was thinking to cool it with the Kraken g10

Then, to attach to that, a corsair h55

The 290 is not listed on the kraken's gpu support page, but, if it does work, how much cooler do you think it will be?

Currently running a 2GB 960 and wanted something a little more.

The card runs at 90-95 with the shitty default fan speed, not at full speed when it sounds like a leaf blower.

If you turn the fan up and make a custom curve, it's easy to keep it in the high 70's low-to-mid 80s without it being super super loud.  It is loud but nowhere near as bad as people say it is.

I would recommend using the Corsair cooling bracket since it does a slightly better job at cooling the VRM and VRAM. That along with a Corsair H55 should shield somewhere in the 50 - 60 degree range at very quiet fan speeds.

Hell I'll sell you mine if you really want it. It'll be cheaper than the total cost too, but if you do want to do it yourself, I recommend following this guide, I did something similar:

Here is what mine looks like:

Anyway, use a Seidon 120M and follow his instructions if you do want to do it yourself. Mine was slightly different like I said, but I get 30C at idle and not above 60C on load, and the fans never go over idle as well, even on load.
