Water resistant camera

So I have a friend that wants a camera that's water resistant because he's going on a trip somewhere. Nothing too fancy or expensive for that mater. Camera is not going to go under water but will get wet at some point. Any recommendations for one under $700? Something that captures pictures nice and wont get busted by water please.

Was actually thinking of the same thing but kinda wanted more options for the guy. Dont want him buying something he wont like.

I think fuji or olympus sells a pretty rugged water resistant camera.

My mistake it was Pentax. I don't know too much about them but just a friendly reminder that these cameras are water resistant not proof. If you want proof you're going to have to go for a gopro or something.

Most cameras will hold up alright getting splashed or in a bit of rain, so long as the lens is attached.

most dslrs and mirrorless cameras will stand up to rain and things like that, depends how wet we are talking

 

there are lots of fully waterproof compact cameras around

 

Or you can get a waterproof housing, or waterproof bag for any camera on the market, small, large etc

Most cameras are weatherproof to some degree or another, if your friend wants to make it splash proof use a plastic shopping bag or rain covers.

Thanks for all the input guys. The go pro solution is the easiest so far and he doesn't want the DSLR route because one he said he kinda wanted a point and shoot one and two it was a bit too big. Anyway's the help is much appreciated.

if you want a dslr, the first gen canon 7d is a good option as it is weather sealed and supper durable. You can see how much in this vid .

 

 

for you to get any benefit of weather sealing though, you need to also have a weather sealed lens.

Would have been nice but the thing is its over his budget plus he doesnt know how to work it. I could teach him but by the time he uses it he'll most likely forget.
