"You're not paying for the system, you're paying for the bullshit" - AlienWare

Also, a system with a R9-370 for 1,700 USD? Nope! That is so overpriced, AW should get sued for such outrageous pricing.

EDIT: This legitimately pisses me off. Like, I'm actually angry right now; I could punch a wall. I would be so pissed at anyone who buys one of these thinking it's worth it.

I literally believe that Alienware should be taken to court over there products.

No rational or reasonable or moral human would charge that much for a product. In my opinion, it's a scam.

They should only get sued if they were the only option. If you had no other choice than to buy AW then I'd agree.

What exactly are you upset about?

I'd personally be upset that the jump from a R9-370 is a 4/5 but a Triple SLI setup is a 5/5.  When it clearly is way better than 1 fifth of a imaginary point...  Personally I'd consider a 370 about a 3/5 and a triple 980 SLI setup to be about a 6/5.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

And tell the judge what?  That AW should be sued for selling a product  priced however they like in an open market and is not a monopoly and not the only choice for consumers and you don't have to buy one and is totally optional?  I think people don't know what freedom of choice means.

False advertising honestly.

Even if it isn't illegal, it's immoral. Which yes, isn't illegal.

If I could dig into peoples pockets making a company related/similar to Alienware, I definitely would go for it.

I'm going to put a link to my PC specs which actually aren't my PC specs and I cry myself to sleep everyday so I can have these PC specs but I can't afford these PC specs so PC specs PC specs PC specs PC specs PC specs PC specs.

They still use 4th gen processors on devices that are well beyond a comfortable price range. The Surface Pro 4 (highest model) has a 6th gen processor for cheaper; but it isn't a gaming machine but still at least 5th gen

What false advertising?  It does have 12GB VRAM, it doesn't say SLI 12GB.  Having 3 GPU's =/= SLI/Crossfire.  You can't bring them to court for "obviously it's 3 GPU SLI" when it doesn't say so, so saying 12GB total VRAM is factually right.  Plus, with the advent of DX12, AW may very well not even be misleading.

Surface is overpriced to fuck. It's a mobile CPU, anyway, so it's much weaker than a desktop grade CPU. No real comparison can be made between the two; a 4th generation desktop i7 will still crush a 5th generation i7 on a mobile platform.

I don't disagree that they should be more up-to date...  but the problem is they need to have more up-to date models.  I don't disagree that they didn't make a design around the 5th generation Core series CPUs, it wasn't important enough.  Additionally, Skylake just came out a few months ago, and for more complex designs, like gaming machines, it takes a little longer to get your ducks in a row.

I'd really be more upset at their "Everything gets 4 or 5 stars"

I wouldn't exactly call the Area 51 overpriced, you guys seem to forget the cost of assembly, shipping, marketing, and warranty(in this case, 1 year on site, you don't see Asus, Corsair, etc. do that). I chose the base model to pick on, and here is my "as close as possible" build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/QueenDemetria/saved/VwNmP6

$1422 if you DIY, excluding rebates/promos for obvious reasons(and if you want to go there, my build only has $70 total in discounts, the Alienware comes with a $85 discount if you don't finance, $170 something if you do finance). Factor in the cost of assembly(whether you have someone else do it or you value your own knowledge) and that instantly adds $100-200 on to the $1400. The thing weighs a freaking ton so you know shipping aint cheap(but its free to the buyer), so now the price is "reasonable". I put reasonable in quotes because its still a hefty performance per dollar, but having an ATX board, 850w PSU, open RAM slots, and decent case offers room for expandability, so depending on your needs you either spent way too much for that FPS or you have a great "upgrade me later" platform.

And to those complaining about the 4th gen processors, no shit. They do upgrades yearly to make things simple, when they released the 2015 Area 51 the 5th gen processors were not on the market.

Edit:

The highest model is $4500 with $215 money back(or $400 something if you finance). My "close as possible" is $3546 no rebates/promos($3466 with) so after factoring in $200ish for assembly and whatever amount for shipping(since it costs AW quite a bit), so you are looking at a $600-800 mark up. Not the best, but not completely terrible either(the highest model includes premium support, which if its anything like Premium on Latitudes its great, really great). My only gripe with this machine is the 1500W PSU, they probably could have got by with less(PCPP says 766w, peaks will be in the 1K's). http://pcpartpicker.com/user/QueenDemetria/saved/jHwQzy

I didn't directly mean that exact page. But Alienware is well known for falsely advertising the performance of their devices.

What's wrong? It literally has 12GB total of vram. If anything, AW is just following what Nvidia and AMD are doing.

Mmm for $4.5k budget I could make a beastly rig than that. If only Alienware sell barebone tower cases. I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

That's from someone who owned M17x R1, then an Aurora R1 (both are steal deals from eBay so calm your tits). I kept my m11x R3 for mobility for school/work/travel though.
