What do you think of this $1100 build?

Hi

I have this build meant for engineering software/gaming, with this restrictions:

-Max $1100

-Has to work well with engineering software (matlab, solidworks, spice, ees, catia, etc)

-Occasional gaming in ultra 1080p for now

-Not so big yet not so small that it becomes difficult to build (so MicroATX)

-Color scheme

-Not have to worry about upgrading for a looong time (not really in need of the latest tech just something that works well)

With that said I made this build, and wanted opinions on it: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/grmanrodriguez/saved/zMzcCJ

Thanks!

NO WAY the 960 Is going to handle Ultra 1080p (some games that are well optimized) but not alot of games :P Also get 2x 4GB sticks of Memory.

Why? My thinking is if I ever want to go 16 gb I'll have more freedom to do so

I support this.

This is correct and I agree with it completely, dual channel is overrated, more room for upgrades is a better bet.

My build is only 20 dollars over budget and he has room to get a second stick later. He gets bigger performance boosts with the parts I listed.

I think a more powerful gpu is necessary, especially since newer releases of many design packages are able to off load highly parallel work onto the gpu.

While dual channel memory makes little difference in gaming, it can make a noticeable difference in other applications. Especially those that are more memory intensive.

This build drops the power of the cpu a bit (~500 MHz), ups gpu performance significantly, adds dual channel memory operation, provides a larger ssd to allow for main program storage and scratch, and replaces a not so good psu (http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=442) with a much better one (http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=348).

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

As usual, I am going over budget. 100 dollars, if your willing to wait, will get you @TechGod's list but with a 390x

390X isn't that much better than the 390. Not worth $100 more. MY mobo and PSU choice also allows him to overclock the 390 in the future for a bit more performance without having to pay extra.

Yes, but the x at the end is worth 100 because X sounds sexy and aluring 3: and one can definitely fap to an x. =w=

Is there any benefit on using Xeon over Core?

Yes, they are fantastic, actually. They lead the run for OCing in the OC motherboards and are just good quality in general~
