So I was helping my friend to upgrade his computer, he bought a new gtx 950 GPU and some 500w PSU.  After instalation we started testing the PC and we got bad fps and freezing in games like CS GO and minecraft... So what should i do? I installed all the necesery drivers etcetera, could it be some problem with OS and the new parts or is the CPU bottlenecking the system? he has a AMD A10-6700 APU.

Thanks for your help :)

Did you uninstall all old drivers before installing the new GPU?

Am I right in saying that both games are more CPU intensive?

Alright, lets go through the easy stuff to look at, then.

Have you checked temperatures on the GPU and the CPU?

Check the clock speeds as well.

The GPU is running cool and smooth even while gaming but the CPU usage is 80-100% while gaming and it is running hot. Thats why i thought it might be the CPU bottlenecking the system. I am not currently at my friends so i cant tell you the exact temps etc.

What's the GPU usage?

CS:GO is pretty CPU intensive and it can be the cause of the bottleneck, especially if it's hitting 100% CPU usage.

I don't think so, but I would still try it again.

I would use this tool to completly remove all drivers: http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

Yeah if the GPU is running fine something's up with the CPU. I don't think it should bottleneck that bad in CS:GO though.

I did not bother to check the gpu usage then but it was realy low the fan was hardly spinning, I'll also update you on that tomorrow.

Yeah and his CPU is not even that bad but it is still running 80-100% in CS:GO and the fan is spinning at full speed.

here for example is my friends cpu:s score: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+A10-6700+APU

And here is i5 4690k https://cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5-4690K+%40+3.50GHz&id=2284

Well it is a bad CPU compared to Intel's, but it shouldn't be making those games y'all tried out give you those issues.

I'd check the temperature just to be safe.

Your CPU is questionable and so is your graphics card. Also what exact PSU do you have?

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

Dang you let him buy a 950.... sad face.... joking... but not really.

Maybe you could put your gpu in his PC and test THAT out and see what happens as a test.

Can't really think of anything other than CPU throttling... like you said it might be running hot?

If his CPU is going to 80-100% in CS:GO...

Then you'd think... is CS:GO that intensive... ?

OR..... has he got stuff in the background.... eating CPU cycles.?

Check task manager or even CPU temp/usage programs (when NOT in a game) sitting idle on the desktop, and check to see if anything is using the CPU, before you even play.

Could he have his Windows control panel power profile on 'power saving' and not high performance.?

Need more details as we progress.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

ok his cpu temps vere around 50-60 degrees even while idle and while gaming the temps were around 80-95 sooooo i quess the problem is the cpu

Those are really high temps for an AMD CPU, so it's definitely a problem. Try cleaning the radiator and reapplying thermal paste. I've had similar issues with the stock cooler of a Phenom II - the thermal paste was just horrible.

Wow.... thats enough to thermal throttle him to the minimum frequency like crazy.

No wonder he's getting crap performance.

Oh yeah that might be the problem, was not even thinking about the thermal paste or dust in the cooler. gotta visit him again tomorrow :P .
