Wouldn't building computers be 100x less stressful if you could just clip parts together with a snap? No cable management to worry about!

would be much easier, yes. tough it would mean that the entire industry would need to re-design every component. i don;t see this happening very soon.

Sure it might be convenient, but it would require re-doing every single physical size/layout standard in the industry.

Well, things like GPUs used to be only powered by PCI-E slots, no extra connectors. Now, they're way too powerful for that. I don't get how you'd snap things like HDDs to the mobo, that sounds silly.

Instead of all companies redesigning their products, a new company could emerge and make everything clip-on :)

true, tough they'd need millions of funding to get the idea off the ground. i don;t think a simple kickstarter would be enough to do that.

wow, a CPU DIMM? what is that even called? looks pretty amazing tough! :P

At the end of the day, I don't think build a PC is that hard. Not being constrained to a snap in technology has a lot of benefits. We're able to get all kinds of form factors. Because PCs are so open, different standards of motherboards, GPUs, PSUs are able to exist in niche markets. You want a huge gaming tower with 4 GTX Titans? Go for it. You want a Ultra small PC? We have mini ITX motherboards, cases and PSUs, and GPUs just for you! How about a PC built into a desk, because why not? Personally, I think a standardized snap in building tech would just hinder progress more than help.

I did make a PC with snap in tech though. I have a Raspberry Pi with a case made out of Lego. ;)

Years ago, I wanted the same thing for laptops. I love gaming laptops, and I do wish there was a feasible way to standardize them so I could more easily upgrade my GPU. But, we'd never get things like Asus's new liquid cooled PC, or MSI's beasts that have dual GTX 980m in SLI.

I just finished watching this video from CES 2014 with Linus commentating over it. Wow.

To think that it's been almost 2 years since its reveal... hopefully they'll be close to a finished product by the end of next year.
