A quick google search will help. Seriously you just have to google the CPU name nothing else.

the average user won't bother doing that. i do my research before buying anything but even i am guilty of filtering out i5 and only looking at i7 when buying a laptop due to habit.

The problem isn't that intel or microsoft tried to lie or hide anything but the way the average user thinks. put it like this desktop i7 = 4 or more cores, laptop i7 =  4 cores, ultrabook i7 = 2 cores. Which one stands out from this?

The cpu issues are valid as when it comes to mobility cpus 99% of people think 4 cores at least when they see i7.

i am tech savy and even i didn't know ultrabook i7s were only dual core. i was thinking of getting one but a dual core won't be enough even for basic every day use for me as i multitask heavily.

Its not the 'i7' that determines if it a quad core or not. i7 simply means 'performance'. And it is. The CPU is clock faster and/or the Intel graphics solution is better, giving you, at an overall level, better system performance.

Regardless of the fact, that would be an Intel issue, not Microsoft, let alone Surface Book issue.

They don't hide at all and no i7 doesn't mean quad core for average joe, for average joe i7 > i5 > i3 cause higher is better and nothing else. Same goes with things like RAM and you can see average joe falling for bigger is better when you see mobile GPUs advertised.

And if they lied it's Intel fault as it's Intel marketing that markets the CPUs not Microsoft.

Intel also added a (two) quad core mobile i5...just to add to the confusion

I don't really get confused by their naming scheme and I find it easy to memorize. But what's the code name ?

News just in : Microsoft are shit

Yea, MS is shit because of something that is most likely an Intel or Nvidia driver issue.

wow it may look like a mac but it aint QA liked one

I'm sorry what? What is the apple equivalent of the Surface book? It's always hilarious Apple for the products "working" when it's actually their products doing less. Point me to an Apple tablet that runs a full OS.

it's likely similar tot he alienware case. I won't know till we know exactly which ones are in there but likely the same cpus pretty much but a couple hundred Mhz apart.

The laptops with quad cores have beefier cooling solutions. I'm glad you weren't working at MS so you wouldn't have had the bright idea of putting a quad core i7 in a tablet.

That's what everyone does.

Windows 10 is obviously a black box and is what's causing these issues.

Its just the NSA backdoor causing instabilities

This is far from accurate. You think the average Joe knows how many cores are in a CPU? That's cute.

The average Joe has no idea how many "cores" are in any CPU, let alone an i7 specifically.

No ultrabook has a quad core i7 in it. And make no mistake, the Surface Book is essentially an ultrabook.

Just because you didn't research the product properly to see what the CPU specs were, or had an incorrect assumption, doesn't make it Microsoft's fault.

Microsoft has never been shy about what CPU's were going into the Surface Book. The specific CPU model numbers have been published for a bit now.

Seriously all three sources, all the same article. No numbers, no nothing showing how widespread the issues are.

THIS.

Every product ever made to be mass produced have some manufacturing defects. This entire topic is pointless until numbers are produced showing how many are effected. As far as we know (right now) this could literally be 1 out of 1 million shipped.

its essentialy a MBP or even maybe an air....that you can take the screen off.  the reality is most people will use this as a laptop over the tablet

Might as well say a desktop computer a pocket calculator.

Are you trying to say that I should not be SSH'g (from my phone) into my desktop to do basic addition?

And the reality is that most people use their computer to use Facebook, so an iPad 1st gen would be just as good as a MBP for many users.

It's closer to the formfactor of a MBA, but closer to the horsepower of a MBP.

The distinction that it's a tablet with a keyboard docking station - even if most won't use that feature - is incredibly important.

Are you trying to say that I should not be SSH'g (from my phone) into my desktop to do basic addition?

Pfft sounds perfectly reasonable
