just wondering looking at my ram usage down to 8gb because one of my sticks died. anyways wondering what service host is? its not taking up alot of ram or anything but i have never heard of it so i was just wondering what it is.

background windows processes

if its using too much ram or CPU leave it for a couple hours, install all windows updates, then restart and leave it for a few more hours and it should go down to normal again

Yup, it is background services.  You might see several svchost.exe processes - all of them are normal
