Difference between the MSI R9 380 "LE" and Regular Edition

Flexology

So i posted a few days ago about looking to buy a new GPU around 200$ and I have narrowed down my choice to a R9 380. I was checking NewEgg and i saw 2 versions of the MSI R9 380 4GB versions. One is "LE" and another is "Regular". A quick research told me "LE" stands for Lite Edition which is slightly underclocked.

So my question is, how significant is the difference between these 2 and which one is the better choice. The price difference is like 30$, so which model is worth buying?

I'd say get the standard edition - not sure what LE stands for in this case. Back in the day, the 7870 XT was Tahiti LE so if it's like that it could be a 390 core cut down to a 380 size. Not sure though

The LE is a lower clocked one, (30Mhz) but at a lower cost.

Get the LE one and OC it = win win

Let's agree to disagree

L.E. stands for Light Edition (i.e. not Lightning Edition). Basically means standard clock speeds with no pre-OC. Cheaper, but it's reference clock speeds.

Yea I have a 980ti LE. It literally means nothing if you are willing to overclock. I mean it's possible that you wouldn't get as good of an OC but not particularly likely. But it does mean I need a +279 Mhz core boost to hit my 1507 standard max oc.

It's still physically the exact same card and it doesn't use reference pcb or anything so no red flags. Its just a cheaper card variant for people willing to overclock.

That's the reason why I bought my MSi GTX 980 Ti Lightning Edition is because I'm too damn lazy to over clock.

See I was going to overclock no matter what and I was very pleased to get a 980ti for 639USD back when the msi models were selling for 679

I bet, although I bought my card mostly for the cooler and the quality. Sadly I missed out on the game coupon for the new A.C. or Rainbow 6.

I got MGS5 with mine, which I've played a bit, it's not bad... But not a game I would have bought if it wasn't free.
