Hi everyone,

I recently built my brand new gaming computer:

CPU: i7 6700k 4.0ghz
CPU Cooler: CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO
GPU: ASUS Strix GTX 970 4GB OC
PSU: ThermalTake 600w Bronze
Mobo: Asus Maximus VIII Hero
RAM: Patriot 16gb DDR4 2400mhz
Case: Zalman Full Tower (automatic switches)
CD ROM: Asus Default (idk exact name)
HDD: Weston Digital 2TB
SSD: Samsung 250GB

...but the problem is, whenever I try to multitask my computer's performance gets really slow. I can run games at about 100-300 fps, but it's really, really choppy. For Windows, scrolling on a website is very choppy, along with just opening Control Panel and/or creating a new tab in Google Chrome.

This really sucks because I'm trying to stream, but I can't have OBS, Spotify, Skype, or Steam open all at the same time.

I have updated my GTX 970 drivers, nothing else. If you guys have any suggestions, please reply to this thread.

Thank you!

Chris

I'm not sure what the issue is, it seems like it is either a problem with the motherboard or the cpu itself, it doesn't sound like any sort of graphical issue, but I don't know the potential causes and am basically just bumping your thread so others can take a look

could use a OS reinstall...

ran a virus scanner and checked task manager to see what's eating CPU %?

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

I'm positive it isn't malware that is causing it. Also, I'm not sure how to update my motherboard drivers. @VioDuskar @AresKrieger

To upgrade your motherboard's bios , just go to the download section on asus's website .

There should be a section labeled "bios".

Download it . It should include an flashing utility .

Whatever you do ,make sure your computer does not lose power during the whole process , as this will brick your motherboard if you turn it off.

Also check your temps , there might be an issue if your cpu heats up too much.

@Coaxialgamer can you please give me step by step instructions on how to update the BIOS for the ASUS Maximus Hero VIII? I am new to this.

I can't say it WILL help, just it cant do any harm and can work wonders.

My pc would turn on and off when i bought my refurbished motherboard and onced i flashed it it doesn't happen anymore.

I've never owned an asus board so i'm not sure how the process goes exactly but once you download the bios update zip :

-extract it

-there should be a 64 bit-specific file with a flashing utility  ( mine is from american megatrends , but it may be different in your case)

-Once you run that executable, just follow the steps on-screen and , if required , select the bios update file (usualy a .CAP file).

- Let the process finish . You screen might flicker and your computer should restart .
