"760W" on a psu means "up to 760W" so it'll scale down to whatever it needs to supply.

100% fine. The 760W rating is the maximum you can draw from it.

If the system is only gonna use less than three hundred watts consider getting a five hundred watt power supply and save yourself some cash.

I still know what that meant, but a power supply will not trip if the unit is not at its max. Otherwise, no system would be able to idle - they'd all shut off.

There's nothing to stop you from putting a 1200W PSU in a computer the requires less than 300W. It's completely mismatched for the job, but it won't work any better or worse than a decent 350W PSU.
