Hi guys,

I am want to start earning money from web design and/or front-end development (Freelance).

I have all the skills required  to start designing and creating websites. So I want to make a portfolio to display my brand and personallity. I want to attract clients and start earning money doing what I love :)

The Problem...

I have no work to display on my portfolio as I haven't worked with any clients before. So I am wondering how it is possible to get hired by clients if I have no work to show them? I understand that I could use my portfolio as an example but my portfolio will seem empty without design projects.

I was wondering if you guys had any experiance and could offer advice?

Thanks in advance,

James

I'm sure you have made a website before, otherwise you couldn't offer your work for money.

Just display the sites you have made already to 'test out' stuff

Start making whatever, I'm surprised you don't have some work already done. Make yourself a website or some nice graphics and post them on said website.

It's what i sort of started doing, free wallpapers for everyone!

first, make your own website. don't make something so too fancy to begin with (keep it within the 5 main design rules.. to be safe :P) and on it. well make some other concepts and website designs that you made yourelf. to show what you can do !

while learning html/css/php/js  you probably made some examples ? use those !

make something cool you don'T need to have had a contract to get one :)

If you have all the skills, you should have portfolio. Show the projects you worked on while learning the skills. Show your breakdown and ability to make something new(your ideas, not just what tutorials show)

I was in this position. Do some redesigns of various sites in your spare time. Sites like YouTube, Facebook, Twitch - if you take a look on Behance there's alot of people have done redesigns to get their portfolios started.

Good Idea thanks. I can just make a PSD and Upload to behance :)
