Because the GPU power required to run 4k 144 Hz almost doesn't exist.

I noticed while shopping for a monitor that there was no 4k 144hz monitor, i understand the current limitations of hdmi 2.0 and displayport 1.2, but displayport 1.3 already exists, so why arent manufacturers making screens capable of 4k at 144hz?

DisplayPort 1.3 isn't capable of 4K 144Hz either, and no GPUs have it so it wouldn't matter if any monitors used it.

Not true at all. You can get 144fps at 4K easily in plenty of games which aren't as graphically intense, and even in the latest AAA titles "ultra" isn't the only setting there is.

You've completely missed the point. It's not about the power, it's that no card carries an output that can run 4k@144Hz.

well thats the egg and the chick, they dont make displayport1.3 videocards because there is no screen for it and they dont make the screens for displayport1.3 because no graphics card use it, knowing that the technology is there and possible, they sould still make the screens and gamers will upgrade their gpu's to run it.

Not really, at least some GPUs are always released with the newer standards before displays are released. GPUs are in development for several years and can't be changed on a whim, whereas a display doesn't take nearly as long, so design decisions with GPUs are very rarely determined by the current market. DisplayPort 1.3 GPUs will come when they come, not before and not after.

And again DisplayPort 1.3 isn't capable of 4K 144Hz either (it maxes at 4K 120Hz, and barely).

True, but if you're not going for graphics - why are you buying a 4K monitor? 4K 144hz is unrealistic and out of the price range of most consumers because it would require AT LEAST a 970 for all lowest settings (and even then, I think it would still struggle) look at the rigs that run 1440p 144 Hz. They're really expensive. I could imagine a 4K 144hz gaming rig costing quite a bit more, and not everyone will bother building a rig that expensive. Heck, my friends think I went a little crazy when I sold my 970 for a 980ti. Few people would use 4k 144 Hz because of the cost.

Also, you can split a 4k panel down the middle - effectively halving the resolution for each output by creating two screens (only not separated by a bezel)

I used a 4K panel at work last summer like this. I would imagine that with the smaller screen sizes, you could use displayport 1.2 to get 120 Hz easy. If you split it into 3 or 4 panels you could get 144 hz or beyond. It would just cost too much and few people would buy it. not worth the engineering investment.

Absolutely, though it's a bit of a hack and has issues of its own, so I don't really consider it an equal solution.

Some say medium settings at 4K look better than ultra at 1080p or 1440p. Really depends on the game, as does performance in general. Just saying games can't be run at 4K 144fps I think is far too general to be justified.
