After watching first 25 minutes of GiTS movie I was about to turn it off. Then for few days it was just sitting in a second browser window and doing nothing. I forced myself trough.. and got intrigued only the very end. Right now I'm watching stand alone complex 1 and enjoying it quite a bit. 
Going to re-watch first movie one day.

Dropped FLCL in the middle of a first episode. It was supposed to be comedy? It was so boring.

But seriously How What why when... See I cant even type straight. When making these kind of accusations you kinda need to explain yourself.

First off may I ask why your watching anime in a browser especially for something like GITS. Its a proper movie that you sit down and avert all of your attention towards to be entertained. Secondly the movie is beautiful I can only imagine the quality you were watching.

What made GITS "only intriguing at the very end"? I mean it ends with a drawn out fighting sequence and big bang. Oh and Batou has and amazing line. I fear now that your watching GITS SAC in the wrong mindset as well.

So I fail to see how you got zero entertainment out of FLCL and call it boring. The anime is literally nuts in more than one way. Hell just a fact that its making fun of Japanese pop culture of the 90's is amazing. Wait might be saying too much already because its like a Cheesy Gordita Crunch in a way with its many different layers. There are many different aspects and levels to the anime most of which wont be noticed the first time though. They are not expected to be either. Its one of those things where 3x in and your like F.U.C.K I never noticed this huge over arching theme.

.mkv (popular torrent format) with layered subs does not play on BD players or TVs with USB ports.

 

Also, torrenting is, in fact, illegal* - as you are part of the distribution chain.

Ghost in the shell was an awesome sci-fi anime movie from the 90s that in my opinion helped change the anime scene alot; really only beaten by Akira.
FLCL is the epitome of crazyness if someone tells you an anime is crazy you must ask them "on a scale of 1 - FLCL how crazy is it" and if they respond with anything but FLCL it's not crazy it's the mark to beat, and note it manages this in 6 episodes...

They're both really good glad they each won, not sure of Gunsmith cats but I'ma say it's good cause CATS!

It looked fine? I could download normal release to see if it's any better, but I was satisfied with the quality.

One film was not enough for me to get in to the story and atmosphere. It's hard to watch something if I'm not interested in any character and that's what happened with GiTS. What made it intriguing was actual development for Motoko.  Stand alone complex gave me even more interesting characters, I started liking Batou as well.

I hope 2nd season or other films is going to develop Motoko more, she is cool character, but so far I known very little about her.

In what mindset I should be watching it? 

I can't talk much about FLCL, but first half of first episode just felt stupid. Main character was getting punched every few seconds by some girl, it got old after second time. Maybe it gets better later or I just started watching it with wrong mood, or it's not for me.

I can understand being unimpressed with the GitS movie, but I watched it sometime after finishing the first SAC season. Don't let the movie put you off from the series, you definitely don't have to enjoy it all. Aside from the market chase and the tank battle, I don't find it to be that memorable either.

 

FLCL was fun for me. I was in it for the audiovisual experience, and it did not disappoint. If you want to piece together a story or meaning out of it, I'd say it's short enough to just finish the series and then decide whether that's something you want to pursue or not.

 

Gunsmith Cats strangely wasn't for me. It wasn't memorable. I like cars, guns, and tits, but it reminded me more of being 12 and looking at those kinds of magazines, thinking "Wow, this is cool!" with little substance behind the thought. Perhaps that's the point. I hear the manga is much better, but I never bothered to check it out.

just like every thread we make other then the main thread. That is part of the reason I would like to push these to every 2 weeks but @MyInnerFred doesnt seem interested in that.

I'm not necessarily against it. Even if we did that participation would be the same would it not?

that hope would be that the participation would be the same for 2 weeks in one thread although that doesn't necessarily mean that would really be the result. Maybe what is really needed is more participation by the staff in general, I tend to be set and forget with these threads and I don't really like talking that much when the threads are first made because of fear of pissing people off with spoilers and they are dead long before the week is over. You tend to just spam them with useless touhou images that take up space and add nothing to the thread other then a distraction from the topic at hand.
