Is it okay to sand acrylic h440 window panel ?

JardineShi

will it make an uneven surface when i sand it down ? Or will i ruin it more like adding more scratches ?

If it's just oil on the side use some goo gone, and if it's really scratched try getting some spray on frosted glass.  That way you can even stencil something cool into the panel

If that's just oil, there are oil-wicking cloths you can use to wipe it off. Just buff it.

its cajuput oil

Is it sticky?

If so, clean it with alcohol and wipe with a soft cloth rag. If not, just wipe it with a clean cloth rag. Keep wiping with clean rags until it's gone.

Yes. Alcohol or acetone will clean off pretty much anything. It's a radical new technique called "cleaning"

I figured, that when I was 15 years ago, I was the only one who didn't do that.  This is quite the eye opener.

Do not use alcohol or acetone that is a plastic window it will etch and melt the plastic on the surface if it's oil some warm soapy water will take care of it. However if the oil etched into the plastic you will need to wet sand buff with leveling fluid and polish it back to clear which is a lot of work so it would be a good idea to get a new window or replace it.

If the oil has penetrated the acrylic then sanding is not going to work well at all.  One because you probably cannot sand that deep, and two because the oil will probably make the acrylic somewhat softer - so it will not sand cleanly.

There are kits that can be used to sand out scratches that will return some plastics back to optical clarity level.  But the process is tedious and time consuming.

The 12,000 grit leaves scratches undetectable by the human eye.

But, given the expense of the kit, and the time & effort involved  I'd recommend simply replacing the panel.
