Hey guys 

 

i'm trying to choose parts for my frist pc build for games and i'm struggling with the processor choice.

 

I've decided so far to go with an asus strix gtx 970 oc 4gb card.

 

But i'm divided between going for an i5, like the 4690k, or for the i7 4790k.

 

In terms of pc longevity, will it make much of a difference in playing experience with current or near future games, going with the i5 over the i7?

 

If not, is it better to go with new 6600k (and new skt 1151 components) or the 4690k (or other) is fine?

The R9-390 is much better for the same price of the 970.

i5 For just gaming you can save some money for better GPU, if you want video and do some production work you should get i7

2. get a r9 390

Depends which 390. Strix 970 runs really cool and quiet and you get gameworks + usually better performance on Nvidia titles. But r9 390 has more sheer horsepower and better dx12 support. Not to mention more than DOUBLE the usable Vram compared to gtx 970

What 390 would you recommend? 

MSI, Sapphire, and XFX are all great choices. Stay away from Gigabyte which has plenty of issues on its own and lower quality brands such as Visiontek unless you are really on a budget. The reason why I did not mention Asus is because they don not care about current gen AMD cards, period. They have a habit of just slapping on Nvidia coolers and calling it a day.
