I'd also take this video with a very small grain of salt. He's clearly quite biased against Apple based on the tone and the way he just generally shits on Apple and praises Android.

 

iOS probably only scans for new hardware when you update.

Of course the guy is biased and he hates Apple, but I don't think he says something flase in the video. His message is that error 53 harms not only repair shops, but also cosnumers and we need to start to vote with our wallets if we want to stop it.

If iOS only checks your hardware when you update, it isn't a security feature anymore. This doesn't keep hackers out of your device, it only harms the user.

Considering that most cases I've read about have resulted in Apple replacing the device, it doesn't really seem likely that they're trying to screw the repair shop or the consumer -- seeing as they'll just swap it out for a new device.
