Looking for good music making software

So, I personally am very musically talented (I'm not trying to boast here), and I've tried to make music before, but I always get limited or confused by the software.

 

Does anybody know of any simple music making software, where it is just you are given the range of notes, beats, you can select instruments, and then layer them on top of eachother?

Reaper is free. Audacity is also free, but it offers nothing of what the other DAWs offer.

I used to mess around with Reason by Propellerhead back in the days, but it has a quite steep learning curve. Rebirth, when it was on Windows (now it is iPad), was great and the little brother of Reason.

 

I know a lot of people are using FL Studio.

The two I've worked with are FL Studio and Sonar. Sonar is my main driver though. FL studio is easier to get up and going though. The other major DAWs in the market have some kind of learning curve. Just pick one that fits you best.
