Ive heard about all kinds of SSD's but two that always pop up as "the best" are Intels 730-750 series and Samsungs 850 series.  My question has three parts to it, which SSD series is better (if they are equal but have different benifits, what are the benefits?).  What is a good SSD for a first time builder who plans to game a good amount?  And is it true that SSD's can help with big open world games like skyrim? (im only asking because i plan to play a fair bit of open world games such as arma3, fallout 4, etc).

Edited: If the SSD last a long time, that isa  bonus.

Sorry for all the questions but any help would be appreciated.

(if i dont reply, i am most likely afk so sorry if i dont).

I've got a Samsung SM951 thats a quarter of the price of the Intel 750 and is not that far off in terms of performance. Wait for the Samsung 950 pro if you want a black PCB

the 850 is faster, and uses new 3d nand, giving it theoretically much longer life span

the intel 730 series is a bit slower, but even without 3d nand it still has a very long life span and high durability

the 750 intel series is NVME with way higher speeds and durability, and a higher price tag to go along with it

Crucial has good value for money, i have bought all my ssd's from them and was never once disappointed (ehm intel 520 series, ehm 840 evo tlc issues).

If you want an nvme drive the intel 750 series would be the ideal choice though.

Forget the Intel 730 SSDs. Those are outdated and way to expensive for what they are.

An 850 Evo is not only cheaper, but does also destroy a 730 in pretty much any benchmark.

An Intel 750 SSD on the other hand is a completly different caliber. Those drives use a different protocol and interface.

Instead of AHCI they use NVMe, a new and much better protocol. Because of that and because they are either connected over a PCI-e slot on your motherboard or over a M.2 adapter means that it can achieve much higher speeds. Therefor they are so expensive, that it is almost not worth it to buy on of these. You could buy a really nice gaming PC for one of the 1TB models.

I love my 850 EVO, my system boots in under 10 secs with it as boot drive, so I vote Samsung. Intel's 730 is pretty good too though, but I prefer Samsung's. Can't really go wrong with either. 750 series is faster than both though IIRC.

Durability and lifespan?

write durability

intel claims 20GB per day for 5 years on the 730 series

samsung has a 10 year warranty on the 850 series and idk how many GB of writes

but the 750 is definitely the best if you can afford it
