is a 6700k more powerful than a 5960x

I said "in gaming," you dip.

So what do you think the difference will be? What the hell are you expecting that that single cored speed matters? These are modern i7's we're talking about, the single cored performance of all of those is more than enough for any game out there, especially after you overclock them and it does not matter if it's @4,5 ghz or @5ghz, at all. Considering that most games use at least 4 threads now, and the 6700k is more powerful by 16% when using 4 threads at stock speeds, the difference might be like 1-2 FPS. It does not matter, 6700k is worse than even the 5820k, end of the story, you can overclock the 6700k up to 5ghz while the 5820k overclocks up to 4.6-4.8ghz. Two more cores, four more threads for only a slightly higher price.

No. You would not feel any difference. Like at all.

Umm... Yeah. The price to performance is much better.

how much faster is the 6700k in single core performace over a 5960x? a friend of mine just got the 6700k has been boasting about it saying it's more powerful than my 5960x

Please get your friend sterilized so he doesnt infect the world with his genes. Thank you kindly.

You still aren't taking into account the different in clock speed for that top graph.

Even though, the biggest difference is 5FPS at most.

The difference is negligible.

Oh you're seriously linking unconfirmed DX12 benchmarks? You know I've seen AOE bencmarks that show that FX-8350 beats an i7-4770, that proves nothing and I'm pretty sure most of the people will agree with me.

Even if they were true, the difference completely does not matter, it's still not worth to get the 6700k in favor of the 5820k.

And I suppose an 8 core AMD chip at 4.7 GHz is more powerful because it's at a higher clock, right?

Opting for Skylake right now is a bad idea. A 4790K for 280 USD at MicroCenter is a much better option.

That is totally irrelevant. AMD CPU's are completely underpowered.

We're talking about Intel CPU's here. Comparing similar CPU's.

Your previous bottom graph, shows the difference it can make.

I'm just saying a 5960X is completely unnecessary and underpowered for what it is. Literally 3x the price and only 1.5x more powerful when utilizing all cores.

Not completely true.

The prices, between the two is minimal, +$30 from Newegg.

Or $10 from PCCasegear here in Australia.

If the difference between the 6700k and the 5960X is AT MOST 5FPS and in most cases around 1-2, taking into consideration that the clock speed difference is 1ghz, it only proves my point that 500mhz difference with an already highly clocked i7 does not make any difference at all. 6700k is crap in terms of price/performance and it's not worth buying unless it gets significantly cheaper than the 5820k

Not taking into consideration the Motherboard though. There you lose at least another 20 bucks. Even 30 bucks can make the difference between the GPU you want and the one you can afford.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

So you did all that to prove that there's a CPU that can perform 2 FPS better than another CPU even though it's significantly worse overall? You know that Pentium G3258 can beat your i5 in certain games if overclocked properly right? Does that make it better? What the actual fuck xD

Yes, it does, doesn't it..

For gaming I really don't see why everyone is arguing about CPUs. Most of the benchmarks showing a difference drop the setting to create an artificial CPU battleneck, it's not like anyone would do that while gaming LOL. But argue they will about needing an expensive CPU to go with their cheap ass HDD...

If anyone asks you never saw me.

It's negligible.

No ones going to be saying, "I bought the wrong CPU, it's 2FPS less than a 6700K, Oh no! What should I do?" People are going to be playing and having fun.

5960X is intended for workstation, just like Xeon E5 2699 v3 for server. Which retarded will argue Xeon E5 2699 v3 is less powerful than 6700K?

For gaming, get the mainstream 6700k and fxxk off.

Does ether? A gaming rig is a completely different animal than a workstation or any other PC. Throwing money at the CPU won't get you anywhere. And the case in a PC is the part that will last the longest yet those claiming to want to be "future proof" and throw money at the CPU go cheap on the case. So for me I still don't see why gaming performance matters in this conversation.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
