is a 6700k more powerful than a 5960x

how much faster is the 6700k in single core performace over a 5960x? a friend of mine just got the 6700k has been boasting about it saying it's more powerful than my 5960x

A lot faster. The 6700K will crush it in most games. I'm assuming since the 4790K kills it in gaming applications.

Single core I think the clock speed IS faster but all together the 5960X beats it by a shed load.

It depends. Stock clock vs stock clock, the 6700k may be faster in single threaded applications.

HUE  This is pretty funny, just because a new CPU comes out doesn't mean that a $240 CPU is more powerful than a $1,000 CPU.

Because it doesn't have integrated graphics ?

Nope. It just has better single core performance. It won't beat it in a full performance rating, but it will definitely beat it in gaming.

Correct me if im wrong

Oh man you cannot be serious? First of all, cpuboss is bullshit, do not even bother going on that site again.

The 5960X is 64% more powerful at stock speeds than the 6700k in terms of performance.

even the i7-5820k is better than the 6700k, it's more powerful, it's only slightly more expensive, and in gaming you wouldn't feel any difference cause of clock speed difference, especially that the 5820k overclocks from 4,4 to 4,8 ghz and you get two extra cores with it.

Please don't use CPUBoss, it isn't very accurate.

The 5960X is a lot faster. The reason the 6700K is so fast in single core performance is, it runs at a low core clock. (3Ghz). Once you overclock the CPU to what the 6700K/4790K, it will be identical.

SINGLE CORE

Multi-threaded, the 5960X blows it out of the water. But bring gaming into the equation and that all changes.

For any workload that uses more than 4 cores, and / or is completely memory bound, you are correct, 5960x > 6700k.

However, for pretty much anything else that can only use up to 4 cores, AND is not affected by RAM bandwidth, then the 6700k will just eat the 5820k for breakfast.

Obviously, the 6700K is more powerful in games, the 5960X is 3Ghz vs the 4 Ghz of the 6700K.

Did you even read my two comments????

THE 5960X is clocked at a lower frequecy than the 6700K does, so obviously it's going to beat it.

If you overclock it the same frequency, the 5960X will be almost identical in gaming performance. As CPU makes little to no difference in gaming performance, unless running a really old CPU.
