Skyrim Bottlenecking?

Go to solution Solved by dragoon20005,

your CPU is not the cause

its your SLi GPUs

Hey guys, I run Skyrim with a huge amount of graphics mods and my computer often lags. I looked at GPU Tweak and saw that my 2 660 Ti's in SLI only go to about 60-70% GPU Usage. Is it possible that my processor is bottlenecking my GPU's? I have a i7 3770k and 16GB DDR3 RAM.

I'm kind of suspecting this is due to the 2GB of VRAM I have on my cards being exceeded, but I don't know if that causes bottlenecks.

Even my GTX 970 doesn't see full usage, Skyrim is capped at 60FPS so the GPU are never fully utilized.

I play unmodded Skyrim on Ultra settings at 720p, with an average framerate of 50fps. And I use a GTX 650 1GB graphics card.

You must be playing at a much higher resolution to be struggling with your graphics setup.

I play at 1080p and my game is heavily modded in terms of graphics.

No it isn't?? You should cap it at 60fps but it isn't capped. Physics go to shit when it is unlocked. Amount of times I've open the door to my house only to have a cheese wheel flying at me.

I know the physics go to shit. It is a console port after all, and a perfect example of how bad consoles have become.

yes, vram gets eaten up fast on a 660 Ti, (SLI or not), so yes the GPU is bottle necking you, It was bottle necking my old AMD system and still bottle necking my new computer. I was running over 30+ mods, most were graphical. (though i do have to reinstall the game and mods on my new system as i've got glitches everywhere now)

A new graphics card would serve you good. I'm hoping to play at max settings and the same mods on the 980ti when i get it later this year.

:o that's the one i'm planning on getting! it's $670 USD at newegg right now.

It's a small world after all...

Ya it was initially that much but my buddy had credit on overstock.com that lowered it to $500

ooh i think i was a bit off the one you got was $659 on newegg, the one i want is the fastest next to kingpin, and and 10 dollars more than  yours

But still a good choice, as even a OC 980ti can out perform a 1000 dollar titan X

It it quite funny that the EVGA card games better than a $1000 card.

I'm sure there are other OC 980ti's out there that can beat the Titan X besides EVGA. The only thing you're missing between the 980ti and Titan X really is the 6 extra Vram. But still 6 GB should be fine for modding skyrim with no problems at all. Over 300 dollars in savings for faster speeds, but half the Vram, that's still pretty good as you don't really need 12 GB of Vram right now.
