What is Folding and can you make money from it?

 

No. You lose money through using power to fold. It's just for the greater good.

Its giving power of your PC to solve complicated problems. Like finding cure for cancer. No money getting involved. If you want to "make" money, get into coin mining.

Great way to look at it. 

 

Contributing through your 'electricity bill' is just the same as giving £5 straight to charity, no? The difference being, the computing power to fold for proteins has to come from somewhere, so everyone who folds is contributing regardless.

having your computer on maximum load every day not only drastically increases electric bill. It reduces it span. That's a lot more than £5 in the long run.

but it helps more than 5 pounds, you can't even run a good server for a day :)
