What about quality of the 8+2 cause my vrm get pretty damn hot. (Gigabyte 990fxa ud3 rev1.1) They are at usually 65c

Quality is a questionable subject many says MSI VRMs are crap but mine are yet to fail, but if the VRMs dies on mine I most get a new that is the law here...

 

Edit: 5 years max after that is considered bonus and I probably have to swap before that?

Erm the M-ATX version does also not have a heat sink... (no PRO3 has a heatsink!) I agree heat sinks are good! MOST

you do know that the VRM is CHIPS on the motherboard?

those are the ones generating massive heat. the caps and chockes simply STORE energy, so they doesnt get nearly as hot.

So to settle this down from someone who actually owns a 8350, the cheapest motherboard you should get with that CPU is Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P, I own its older version, the UD3 one.

It's the cheapest mobo featuring 8+2 power phase VRM and it will support overclocking very well.

aslong as you do not try to overload (OC), the VRMs can in most cases survive just fine without cooling. The moment you even attempt to OC, they heat up A LOT...

At that pont the 10sq mm of  metal/plastic shroud ontop of them cannot dissipate the heat... Add all the fins of a heatsink, and IT has a surface area the size of two Corsair Dominator sticks of RAM, if you folded it out into one flat sheet..

 

That is somewhat roughly the surface area of that "little" heatsink on the 970m PRO3....

Everyone think you have to OC AMD CPUs to even remotely have any performance or even be able to boot up sometime this week. When in reality, the difference between AMD and Intel in non gaming tasks is down to less then 1-2 second(s) at worst for daily tasks...

I dunno gaming runs well for me so even there I hardly notice anything... (some games really does not work with FX but I have not had any major issues that could not be fixed)

I know, but people above me do not. Anyway, yeah that's basically what you need, the 8+2 VRM Power Phase, that particular motherboard is the cheapest you can get with that particular feature that's a must have for proper 8350 overclocking.
