GTX 950 FTW or SSC

martward
Go to solution Solved by tomas710,

Hi Y'all.

I want to buy the EVGA GTX 950 or GTX 960, and I'm probably going for the 950 since it is €25-€35 cheaper.

I wanted to know whether the FTW is worth the extra €10 over the SSC.

The difference is 70 MHz and a backplate.

Does anyone know whether the 950 has a sagging problem? Do I really need the backplate?

Are there any other reasons to consider the FTW over the SSC?

Thank :)

It shouldn't sag, it's a short card. If you like backplates and want the extra boost, then FTW, but if i was buying a 950 i would get the budget option, since once you buy the FTW 950 you're like 15 euros away from a 960, which is more performance than any core clock boost would get you.

What about an R9 280?

What are the prices for that in the Netherlands?

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

I would say go for the FTW, just because the backplate will give its more rigidity plus 70MHz is a fair boost in a card of that power.

That one is even more expensive than the 960.

Also I would like to experiment with programming with CUDA.

What about prices on 700 series Nvidia cards? maybe you could get a 770 or something like that.

I'm going with EVGA no matter which card I pick. the 960 is €215, the 950 is either 180 or 190 (SSC or FTW).

My current card also isn't sagging and I'm not sure whether the OC I can do myself would be that much worse than the OC the FTW comes with.

Yeah the prices in the Netherlands are kind of weird. They are a little high and often things that should've been less expensive than others are in fact more expansive.

I took your advice and went with the budget one. I don't game very much and the card is about the same length as my current card which doesn't sag at all.

This one should let me do my thang at 1080p on mid-high settings sufficiently for the next two years.

Thanks :)

Yeah, same here in Chile, prices are weird everywhere since we all use the US as reference. Glad to help, that card is actually the best budget offering of Nvidia since the 960 was dissapointing and the 950 is VERY close in performance, you could argue the 950 is the 760 of this generation.
