Gaming CPU needed?

Im just wondering what will be better in terms of gaming performance, I have an R9 390 atm and an FX 6300. Im not sure what to get a  FX 8350/i5 4460/4590.

The FX chips have no place in solely gaming builds, the i5s should be slightly better, get the 4590 if it's not much expensive than the 4460.

However it's true that 8350 is a more powerful CPU than both of those and if you're going to use its full potential it's better in certain scenarios.

Get an i5. Even an i3 beats the FX in games and there's no point to throw money into a 4 year old platform.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with FX8350, my friend has been using this CPU for a year and there is no difference in actual gaming performance. BTW I am running an i5 4670K @4.4 GHz and there is no real performance difference.

4960x is Z79 (lga 2011, not 2011-3). But yeah, I misread/typed that.

As a former AMD user who has used the same cores the FX 8350 is based off of I can tell you there is a massive IPC difference in games that use 1 or 2 cores - HoMM went from 100 fps to 300 fps and the menu is at 2.4k fps.

Admittedly - I was using a dual core Athlon II - the FX 8350 has 4x the total performance so it would win if all 8 cores are being properly used.

Your dank equations don't work here. No game properly utilizes 8 cores as of yet. The 8350 is a bad CPU for gaming - it only pulls ahead when doing some heavy multitasking.

In CPU intensive games the i5 completely destroys it.

Well if you use R7 250, then there won't be a difference.

i got an 8350 for gaming ? i match alot of my friends builds that have i5's

 

but wehre the 8350 shines through is when you want to create content such as videos or live stream to twitch 

 

im happy i went with FX-8350 its more than enough for games with my 970 and there is alot of flexibility with the 8350 

 

if you are solely gaming then get an i5 and upgrade to an i7 at a later date

 

if you want to create content on a budget as well as gaming then get fx-8350

 

 

people always downplay the 8350 , and i dont know why , yes okay the i5 outperforms it in GAMES , but alot of people do alot more with their PC than just gaming ......

I would make the argument that, besides performance, the problem with the FX line up is that the moment Zen comes out, those chips will be antiques, since the arquitecture is very old and AMD will probably make a big jump,
