The 980ti g1 is really great but

DannyDem

dat coil whine xD... I mean I don't mind it honestly but is it a bad sign of anything? Like will a gpu without coil whine last longer or perform better? I know that probably not and I really don't feel like using the warranty for such a little thing as the card is performing really great but If I have to, I will

Pretty much all coil whine is harmless AFAIK, just very irritating. Most manufacturers don't actually cover coil whine under warranty because it's not harmful and can't really be avoided, so you might be stuck with it.

Linus has done a couple videos on coil whine. It shouldn't harm anything apart from your ears.

Coil whine is completly normal. Of course it can be annoying, but it won't "damage" your card or reduce its life span.

Every Gigabyte customer knows that Gigabyte doesn't give a f*ck about noise.   But therefor they performance is awesome.

I guess I can not really sure though. Hard to explain how it sounds like... I usually have the case closed so barely hear it but its kinda like a little annoying noise like when the pot is boiling too much... better just watch off on youtube and see for yourself xD If you use the case open it could provide to be a bit annoying though

Don't really mind at all if it doesn't affect anything :)

If you play Games like LoL or Dota ect. limit your Frames. Coilwhine can get much louder with hundrets of fps.

How many G1 now on LTT with Coilwhine? This Card has serious problems with that.

Well I heard it when I was achieving 3000-4000 while browsing in a game menu... it was quite loud but I constantly use headphones or loud speakers so It's not that annoying to me

Agree, card perfomance is really great but that coil whine issue seems almost impossible to avoid with this card... woudn't recomend when going with an all silent build tbh

I confirm - HoMM V Tribes of the East has no V-sync - I'm forced to run it @ 2k fps in the menus and that really annoys the card :D

For silence you want EVGA, Galax or Sapphire - Gigabyte and Asus have a LOT of coil whine and MSI can get loud under heavy load.

Absolutely no audible coil whine on my Strix 980Ti - this includes games where the FPS counter goes batshit in menus like Warframe.

I've read similar things from other Strix Ti owners so idk what the deal is there.

Edit: the fans on the other hand.......

Yeah that's a good point. Doesn't Nvidia have a feature like AMD's FRTC?
