I was wondering how many people use Steam for more than just buying and playing games, using such things as Steam Broadcast and Steam Music. What do you guys think of Steam trying to incorporate all these things into their system?

Personally tomorrow I'm gonna do a test run of Broadcast to see how stable it is after being out for a while.

Since I use beta I used broadcast before it was in the stable version, it holds up well but in certain games that don't work well with the in-game overlay it was unstable as well, at least in beta days, I did't use after 3 days of testing, apart from me not being a natural at streaming. Music I know about but have never used it.

I sometimes use it to play music. I'd rather use a software dedicated to music though, they are easier to navigate.

I only did two uses during the beta days. One was for Chiv (Stable with the odd skip now and then) and Outlast (No issue). I forgot what the delay was though.

I honestly just use it for games. I think the other options are more for people that use SteamOS or Big Picture Mode, but I personally think that their implementations of music and game streaming don't work as well as YouTube and Twitch.

How well does it work or what is the ease of use compared to say Twitch?

Your friend just asks to watch your broadcast and you can accept or decline and it will automatically start broadcasting for you. As for how well it works--it works. I've never had a broadcast end unexpectedly if that's what you're asking.

I would by no means use it as a replacement for Twitch streaming through something like OBS though. OBS is a much more feature rich program that will improve your stream immensely if used properly and Twitch itself is a gateway to more potential viewers in a day than you'll ever see streaming through Steam.

It's missing those key features of OBS but Steam's platform is definitely more for games than for anything I want to stream while you can I don't know if there is a option to just stream, I don't recall one from beta days, it was either invite only, friends only or public and the obvious off in options, consequences for streaming anything else not the title the stream was started on I have no knowledge of either.

I think the delay was like 10 secs or something, I have a few EU friends telling me that it was around 30, there could be no delay but more of data transfer delay type system.

I didn't see in settings for delay amount. Probably the EU guys had such a delay due to distance and connection. Only friend I had watch was in UK and it was about 14 seconds in beta for Chiv and like 5 for Outlast.

There is no delay settings, some claim those times, its currently all based on connection speeds.

I used the music feature for about half a day, then I realised it was easier to just use Windows Media Player instead of moving/copying music and creating whole new playlists just so I could access my music through Shift Tab instead of Alt Tab.

I use it only for Games. But some Day Steam will dominate more than just Gaming on PC. Gabe is a Genius, as long he is in Charge, Steam will rise more and more.
