Help Me with Amazon

Go to solution Solved by byalexandr,

dont you have a bank account? Buying things online with visa gift cards always causes problems.

Haha no. Of course I don't, I'm 16. I'm about to open a checking account though, since I have a job interview today and hopefully a job.

Last time I've tried a prepaid gift card on Amazon it didn't work so I used that to shop at retail stores where they accept it. Should have bought Amazon gift card, that way you can just add the amount to your account and it will deduct from your Amazon balance. The card are sold almost everywhere, minimum is like  $25 dollars and goes up to $100 dollars. There are even ones that you can set your own amount and value starts out at $25 minimum, up to $500 maximum.

ebay has gift cards too

Well I didn't want to buy one or the other and not be able to use it if I found a better one on a different site. Plus I've used Amex cards before.

Check the balance of your pre paid; If the amount was removed, Amazon will send you the product, you just have to wait for the rep to email you back.

Next time, if the order does not go through the first time, do NOT try 4 times in a row; that's asking for trouble.

Anyone seeing that at amazon will assume you're trying to manipulate a system or something, and lock you out like they did.

Okay, can I get to my update now?

Update, I woke up this morning, went into my account, and the order is went through. The Amazon rep didn't contact me but just unlocked my account, as I explained that the card was a gift card in the email they told me to send. I will check Amex with the gift card balance to see if it charged.

Edit: Yep, card was charged the amount the phone cost. Thanks for the help guys, next time I will buy site specific cards.

So my friend wanted me to order an iPhone for him on Amazon since he is not that technically knowledgeable. So I went over to Kroger and picked up an American Express gift card, and loaded the money he gave to me on it. I went home, ordered the phone, and after a while it said the order didn't go through because the card it was charged to was not the gift card I just purchased, but a previous one with only a dollar or so on it. So I fixed the payment method and changed it to the card I just bought (which has enough money on it for the phone, of course). Well it didn't change the first couple times so after like three times of trying to change it I just deleted the old card form my account so the only option was the new card. I ordered the phone on the new card, made sure it was charged to the gift card I just purchased, and the order appeared to go through. Well now my account is locked out and I had to email an Amazon machine with my billing address and phone. Keep in mind that there is no card holder name on the gift card as it is a gift card so I just put my name in. Well, now I'm waiting for an Amazon rep to email me back with what's wrong, but I don't even know if I can order the phone now. I used this exact same method to pay for my liquid cooler, so I see no reason for it to work this time. What's going on?

TL;DR: I used a gift card to buy a phone on Amazon but it charged to an old card and after changing it to the new gift card it locked me out of my account.

Oh, and the email said that my billing address does not match the billing address on the card. That's why it locked me out of the account apparently, but what the hell am I supposed to put? It's a gift card, there is no cardholder name or anything, so I had to put my name. I did the same thing before and now I'm locked out of my account.

Any help? And sorry for the long block of text... Thanks!

The main point is, can I still get the phone? And at the very least, will I still have the $200+ that was on the card? And still be able to use it?

If they refund the order you may not get your money back, or it will take a week. Sometimes payments from prepaid cards cannot be reversed. All depends on the provider. Maybe amazon will go through with the payment or give you an amazon giftcard.

Generally you have to activate these gift cards and input your address/billing information. At least with Visa pre-paids.

It was activated, I made sure when I checked the balance.

I just hope I still get the $200+ that it was back. Or that they give me a refund, because I don't have $200 to pay my friend.

I believe there is a gift card thing you have to select when paying but maybe im wrong.

That's for Amazon gift cards, when I used this method to pay for an item before, it went through as a regular credit/debit card.

Yes, I did that so it couldn't charge to the old card even if it wanted to. When it actually [tried to] charge to the new gift card it locked out my account because the billing doesn't match. But what the hell am I supposed to put in there? There is no name printed on the card, I just have to put in my own.

Okay bit of an update, sort of. The email says this:

Hello,

We have removed your access to this account because the billing details for your AMEX ending in 26 did not match the details on file with the card issuer. You will not be able to access your account or place orders with us until we confirm your information.

You can help us resolve this matter quickly by replying to this message with the billing name, address, and telephone number that you registered to your card. Please be sure to reply from the email address that you registered to your Amazon.com account.

If you have recently moved, you may need to update your information with the card issuer before you reply to this message.

To protect your information, we restrict access to your billing details to a team of account specialists. Our Customer Service team cannot access these details or share more information about this matter. They can only verify that we sent this request.

We ask that you not open new accounts because any order that you place may be delayed.

So that means that American Express is declining my billing address. How can they do that when there is no cardholder name on the card in the first place? What's wrong with this card?

Register under a different email.

It's too late for this, I will just wait for the rep to respond. I think they assume that I am pulling some sort of fraud, but I will sort this out. As long as I get the $200 back, I'm fine. Thanks for the help.
