Audiophile grade headset?

mawv

I've been looking for a high quality headset and I ran across this:

http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-MMX300-Premium-Digital-Microphone/dp/B001BYMZ5W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1442937679&sr=8-1&keywords=beyerdynamic+mmx+300

I've heard good things about it and im wondering if you guys also think its a good buy, I'm open to suggestions as well.

I don't have them myself, but was seriously considering them. Looking at reviews on youtube, it seems to me that the one and only drawback with those is that there is no mute button. And perhaps the price point.

I'm a bit blinkered when it comes to beyerdynamic and Sennheiser, but if you're wanting a pair of seriously good cans as well as a top grade mic in one package, I don't think there is anything better out there.

I'd advise you to watch a few reviews (plenty out here) before you make up your mind.

no problem, yeah its pretty stellar, the sound quality is great but the mic is really outstanding, crucial for teamwork on battlefield/counter strike, skyping people or recording videos

Do you mind sharing what video camera and mic you were using? Did you have any continuous lighting?

The mic used in that video was the headset mic connected to a £35 behringer mixer, for my other video I use a blue yeti (will be upgrading soon as I dont like it)

Camera is a Sony A7 full frame mirrorless camera  (I used various lenses)

I have 2  flourscent softboxes on light stands and a metz LED light (borrowed), but some shots were just done in available light

I owned the MX300 and can say without a doubt they are the best headphone with a mic you can buy. Still, you will be better off with a stand alone mic and a better pair of headphones but if you cant have that, then they are the best headphone/mic combo you can buy.

agreed but I have a standalone mic and headphones as well :)

this is just convenient for gaming with friends so I dont need to mess around with my proper mic, and will be useful for streaming etc

Only thing wrong with them is they are the same thing as the DT 770. You can save money by getting one of those and a ModMic usually.

Except the mod mic is pants compared, honestly I dont think the mic on the MMX300s is far off my blue yeti

That is more expensive... plus you will most likely need a mic stand + pop filter ideally for the Yeti, and it gets in the way, and picks up ants breathing.. from 400 miles away

MMX300 = $300

Yeti  = $117

DT770 = $200

I just checked prices.... when did the DT770 jump up so far in price? Used to be able to get them under $150.

Anywhozle, I'm not saying he should get a Yeti. A ModMic is adequate for most users who don't need to spend so much money on the MMX300. Let OP choose what's best for himself; we just give options.

Of course, its always up to the OP, I never said he has to, just saying its an option I really love, and I still think the mod mic while a great idea is not the best sounding

but that depends how important the mic quality is to the OP, for me, it was half the reason I got the MMX, so half the money is considered the mic

if I judged them as $300 headphones there are better options or a $300 mic there are better options, but as a whole product I think its well priced

but thats just my 2 cents
