How does a OC 980 vs a OC 390x perform?

Im curious how a OC 980 performs against a OC 390x. I cant find many benchmarks on this.

Honestly, on paper it looks like the 980 has WAY more headroom than the 390x. Then you realize that a stock 980 doesn't actually run at stock speeds and you'll notice that most of that "headroom" is already being taken advantage of in the stock configuration with no changes due to GPU boost 2.0, making them overclock about similarly well.

 

note: the Titan Xs in this video hit a thermal wall that a GTX 980 with a proper aftermarket cooler wouldn't hit, and so GPU boost 2.0 would make the "stock OC" even higher.

well at base clock they perform pretty much the same. the maxwell series overclocks a little better in my opinion but i wouldnt oveerclock it to the max if im honest it takes one bad driver and your oc is instable. its not worth it in my opinion.

if youve got a decent psu and some good ventalation i would go with the 390x but i just like amd the 980 isnt bead either

At 1200mhz on my R9 390, beating stock 390x and seems in line with 980, sometimes ahead.
