Benchmarking software

Hi guys,

Me and a friend of mine are working on a school project in which we're measuring speed difference before and after overclocking.

The pc we're using is a Dell Optiplex 760 with very basic specs.

Something along the lines of a 2-3 ghz dual core, 2 Gb's of ram and the rest of the basic stuff.

Now we're wondering, what would be a good benchmark to check results of overclocking this cpu?

The benchmark should give clear results and shouldn't be too heavy (Let's be honest, this isn't truly a gaming rig).

I did some research myself and found PassMark / PCMark 8.

Are these good options, and what other options are there?

Suggestions are very welcome.

Thanks in advance

well, i like 7zip's benchmark because it tosses out very clear numbers, and its a benchmark that uses a pretty common real-world usage scenario.

so at the end you could say "after overclocking your ZIP files will process X % faster"

Asus has a good one, realbench I think it's called.

Err don't run prime95, it apperently draws in way too much voltage and yeah..

P95 is relatively safe, aslong as you're monitoring the temperatures, it's designed for a absolute worse case (hence the extra voltage drawing) which may or may not be the OPs objective.

3DMark06 is one good oldie for testing lower end systems. CINEBENCH is always good choice.

P95 is fine for older Intel CPUs and all AMD stuff. It just doesn't like Haswell, Devils Canoyon and mayube Skylake CPUs.
