Hello Internet I'm NoTrollOk and now I wanted to do a Gaming PC.

 

I'm from Malaysia where the currency is dropping MASSIVELY .

 

OK, my budget for this build is USD 900 (including monitor,mouse and keyboard)(excluding offers, rebates, discount whatsoever)

 

CPU: AMD FX 8320

RAM: Kingston Value RAM 1600Mhz 4GBx2

Motherboard: MSI 970 Gaming

GPU: Sapphire Radeon R9 280 Dual-X

PSU: Aerocool KCAS 600w (80+ Bronze)

SSD: Kingston V300 120GB SSD

HHD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB

Case: Aerocool GT Advanced

Monitor: AOC I2470SWD

Keyboard & Mouse : CM Storm Devastator

 

(Aerocool may not so famous in US or other countries but it does in Malaysia)

 

OK, that's what I thought in mind and even if you wanted to change the mobo/cpu/gpu make sure you make it for AMD

Seriously though nobody will ever know if the CPU is Intel from visuals and a Core i5 will be soooooo much better than an FX chip in almost all games.

if you want amd for the cpu than go for the athlon 860k since most games wont use more then 4 cores and its cores are a bit more powerful

Id swap out the SSD + HDD for a 250gb 850 Evo (Trust me you will thank me later), and get a half decent cooler.

Try and pickup an r9 285 if you can.

Eh no... Sorry bud, even team red knows the FX cpus are shit for gaming. i5 + H81 and you're golden. That Aerocool case is okay but not that psu. You're still team red even if you have an intel cpu.

nope, FX 6300 will outperform it any day, costs less, needs less expensive mobos...

go say that to @Nena360 she said it herself that the 860k has more powerful cores so that would mean that the 860k performs better on games that use 4 core which most games use, unless you overclock the 6300

Yes it has better cores with 20% better IPC but the FX-6300 has 2 more cores that makes it better. (depends on the game!)

the single core performance of a 860k is so negigeble that it really only matters in theory....

 

And it only matters in theory because the FX boosts higher then the athlon anyway, so higher frequencies cancel out the tiny advantage the 860k has...

Look at Cinebench and gaming results....

 

That is a 4-core FX vs a 4-core 860k (that APU is a 860k + R7 250 in one chip)

Now, look at a 6-core FX vs 4-core 860k....

most of the games shown are using 4 cores or less.... Now think for a moment what happens when you play a game like say, The witcher 3? where you CAN use all 6 cores....

 

Also, i own a A10 7870k myself... ive owned a FX 8320.... The 7870k needed to hit 4.6GHz to get the same Single Core Cinebench scores as my 8320 did at 4.3GHz....

 

The truth is, to get better IPC in the Athlon series, AMD had to sacrifice something. OC headrrom and "scaling" was what they traded off... the Athlon will get LESS in return pr MHz then the FX 6300...

 

BUT, there is the "twist".... the Athlon is not that much cheaper, and the FM2+ socket isnt that much better either..... only benefit it has is PCie Gen3.... BUT, as of today, no GPU in existence can actually saturate PCIe Gen2.... so even Gen2 is more then enough for a long time...

nop... in some cases it isnt even 15% (IPC can vary slightly depending on the testing methodology and the instructions used)

Well DX12 will make it alot EASIER! In the past it was hard but yes some game devs may screw this up...

just because it makes it easier doesn't mean they'll do it, but that does make a lot more sense than what everybody was  saying which was that dx12 will magically make all games support all cores

No not all cores up to 6 can be used by the GPU to draw calls. The two last one on my FX will probably do other game tasks that is less important!

all cores can do drawcalls, but it seems there are no real benefit after 6 cores... past that point, you get diminishing returns....

My current game development project using CANON (Our Customised Engine based on Unreal) is already scaling past 4 cores .

FX 6300 at its current price point is generally worth buying over the Athlon 860k.... if the Athlon drops in price again, then it will be the one to pick, but it has to drop under 65-70 USD
