It's those twats that make the wording the most difficult part. Like, just give it to us straight bros.

 

 

180*tan(7°) + 180*tan(22°) should be your answer in feet. This is because you get the lower part of the tree with a 7° angle from your window and the remaining part with a 22° angle; the distance of both parts is 180 feet from you. It's just two triangles on top of each other. That's the way I understand it anyway.

I have memories of sitting with my maths teacher for an entire lesson, just arguing over the wording of these types of questions. Even in my exams, I'd just write comments on the questions. My science paper was just covered with labels like "don't even make sense"

From the initial wording of the question though, it seemed like the tree was up a hill as they both say "from the horizontal"

trig was ok but my teacher could have explained things a bit better, and i have a hard time focusing so i probably missed some key parts and made it a bit difficult for me
