Hi everyone,

I'm in dire need of a new router, as I'm still using one from my ISP from probably about 7 ish years now, and its constantly stopping, rebooting, slowing drastically, and just behaving oddly in general. I'm fairly certain it is the router because all of these problems can be fixed with a simple reboot. I'm on a budget anywhere up to about $400 AUD. That may be overkill, but I've had so much trouble with my internet for so long that that's how much I'm willing to pay for a stable networking setup. Any suggestions for a router/WiFi modem?

Thanks

as a temporary fix, try reflashing the firmware. Mine had gotten to the point of crashing as soon as it got a DSL connection, so I unplugged the DSL line, reflashed the firmware from the UI on PC, and it fixed it. It going on 7 years is asking for an update though

Normally the ISP gives you a modem rarely both, ask them for an upgrade. Some modems can be programmed to work with the ISP requesting that, otherwise you can probably pickup a new one from another place, or flash the firmware as iamdarkyoshi said.

My suggestion includes the idea of getting a modem only from your ISP.

Thats what I'll probably do - buy a nice Asus WiFi router, and get a modem from my ISP. My concern is they'll give me an old model that will be a bottleneck for my shiny new gear. Thoughts?

Traditionally if you get JUST a modem then you wont have a problem.  The internet connection itself will still be slower than the modem can handle.
