Youtube doesn't use a fraction of my internet speed

XxKINGxX40

My ISP is AT&T. I have Gigapower (1Gb/s) and a lot of times, Youtube videos load so slow. I always check the 'Stats for nerds' when videos buffer, and right now on the connection speed, it says ~2,000 Kbps.

Any suggestions?

Do you really need anythign more than 2000kbps to watch HD videos?

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

2,000Kbps is either what ATT is throttling you to, or what Youtube is throttling you to.

Thank you, I understand this phrase.

I'd say considering its such a even number of 2,000Kbps it has to be AT&T that is throttling your bandwidth.

It's not always at the same speed. It'd go anywhere from 1000 to 2500Kbps. What's weird is on a other video I watched right after that one, it was perfectly fine. Speed was about 85,000Kbps and the whole video loaded in seconds.

Then it is probably youtube just not giving you the data quick enough.  That or ATT is playing with you.  I personally hate ATT and think they are fucking with you.

Use Google's dns servers.

8.8.8.8

Or

8.8.4.4

Could also do a tracert in cmd to youtube and see how many hops it's taking.

ISPs often has some in-house caching for services like youtube or partnering with an external caching company.

You could try tracerouting to youtube.com and see if that is true and add a firewall rule to your pc to block that ip so your dns server looks up the other ips available for youtube.com, which would often be a google ip or an ip that is not congested.

take a look at this and test it out :)
