Lightweight OS for Raspberry Pi 2

I've been searching for a linux distro or OS that can play videos from browsers as well as playing a video from VLC, etc. I've tried Ubuntu Mate, Snappy Ubuntu core, Raspbian and Linaro. Are there any Lightweight OS that can suit my needs? I'm close to giving up and use my Pi as a router or a torrent box.

What the hey....

This ^ My B model made for a poor anything but breadboarding machine. Tried using it an XMBC, lightweight router, and a small personal file server. None worked well. 10/10 would not recommend unless you're into breadboarding and tinkering.

What issues did you have with Raspbian? I have found it's pretty good on the Pi.

As stated above even the most recent Pi isn't a massively powerful thing. I have used it for media and streaming (H.265 1080p @60FPS) and it worked nicely, but its uses as a workstation are pretty limited.

Did you overclock your RPI as well or are you using the stock settings?

yea..or a second hand 100$ pc ..

you can usually find a dual core pc..thats not too bad for 100-150$

then you just throw in a hdmi videocard..and boom...got yourself a decent htpc

my 2 htpc's are a core2quad and a core2duo

I was using stock speed, it seemed to deal fine with 1080p media.

What do you want to do with the machine and where has Raspbian fallen down?

Usually, when I watch youtube either the video doesn't play or there will be stuttered video with no sound.

What browser are you using? I've noticed that Firefox HTML5 (and Youtube) support on Linux is a little hit and miss, Chromiun works much better in my experience. I'm not entirely sure about other browsers, some might work better than Firefox.
