ASUS Maximus VIII Titanium edition ?

sms1202

It's the Maximus 8 extreme I believe.  The event this record was set at was a mixture of M8E & this titanium board, on the HWBOT submissions that had this board listed under CPU-Z, their submission said they were using the M8E

I'm more impressed by that 1.92v on the cpu - it won't last long

Ln2, and CPU-Z was still buggy back when this was set.  A lot of chips will handle up to 2v on Ln2/Liquid helium

(At this event they were using some liquid helium, so this may have been set with that)

Sizzling while it's -100c or lower? :P

Does it really matter how long it lasts? The purpose of extreme overclocking is to see how far you can push things, not to baby it with 1.2v and say "omg i can do 4.8 ghz 24/7!"

As long as the CPU is nice and cold while you smash it with tons of voltage, degradation isn't as big of a deal as on ambient cooling.

it doesn't in a competition of course, it does when those products are marketed to consumers and show off those numbers. and at 2v even ln2 can't do much to save it.

And you know this how? Do you frequent the extreme cooling subforums on OCN, or HWBOT?  Do you frequently watch livestreams of professional overclocking tournaments? Do you regularly talk to people that do Ln2 on a monthly, or even weekly basis?

if you do and know of cpus lasting longer than a few days on 2v, I'll gladly take that back. after all what I know on the subject is mostly word of mouth/keyboard.

Also, isn't Skylake able to take more voltage than Haswell?

So surely you would have no clue how it could handle 2v unless hearing from people who deal with Skylake + LN2 a lot such as the OCN threads that @Lays frequents on but you don't..

it only has to last long enough to take that screen shot, if it works after that then its just a bonus. the kind of people who do this probably bin more cpu's in a week then you will own in your life so they don't care if a few of them die. its like when jaystwocents does check before he drills through a motherboard or when linus cable ties coolers on cpu which cost twice as much as a high end gaming rig.

well sure, I just question the point of all this binning if at the end of the day none of it is usable. records sort of loose meaning when you don't gain enough performance to justify even a fraction of the cost. A 7ghz core i5 won't grant you the performance you'd get if you had spent the money it takes to get there on a better cpu instead. of course it's just about making the screenshot in this case - it's just a little disheartening.

that is the whole point i was trying to make. for them there isn't any cost. its just pushing the limits. like drag racing or f1, you couldn't afford to do it every day and its not going to get you to the shops faster, but its cool to see what things we have made can do when pushed to the extreme.
