you're actually wrong, they got smaller over time...

he mentioned he's gonna be streaming, you need a decent chunk of cpu power to get your stream compressed right.

Nah, Haswell i5 chips can handle it pretty easily especially if you get a 4690k.  Get a cheaper CPU and a more expensive GPU any day even if you will be streaming...  but not necessarily if you do lots of video rendering with slow codecs such as x265 to crush things into even smaller filesizes.

Even with laptop editions of i5 processors (read: dual core, low clockspeeds) you can get nice quality, but the file sizes will be somewhat larger... not a lot though.

A few questions first. What's your budget? Do you plan on overclocking? What kind of games do you plan and what settings do you hope to play them at? As for what you have now, it all looks good in general. However, I suggest getting a lower capacity ssd and a mechanical hard drive. I've always liked that combo. Many people here will say the r9 380 is a better choice for the gpu, but 960 is good as well, but you should get the 4 GB model. Finally, consider a PSU upgrade. The CX is ok, but it's as basic as you can get. Also, have you used pcpartpicker to choose your parts? It's really helpful

Okay, let me tear this post apart as it's a lot of false and misleading info.

1 - it looks bad

2 - R9 380 is 10-15% faster than a 960 and can actually use 4 GB of memory - 960 is incapable of both that and A-sync Compute making it useless in DX12

3 - CX is not okay - CX is a fire hazard.

Shit - no, no no no. That's old and crap. It lists Delta as "bad", Fuck no.

"Old and crap"

Sir, it was updated on August 9th, 2015... which is more recent than the list you linked!

And CX is not a fire hazard if used properly - in basic systems as Corsair recommend.  No clue why any capacity over ~ 400 watts exists for it though!

cx is okay, for grandma's pc. this isnt grandma's pc.

the DX12 argument is still a bit iffy, we're basing everything right now on one benchmark, and the guess there'll be DX12 games before we're up for an upgrade.

I'm basing it off of the fact that Maxwell's scheduler can't do Compute + Graphics at the same time and also on that it has 31 + 1 lanes compared to GCN 1.1 and above which has 64 + 1

As a Xeon E3-1231v3 owner, I don't think there is any use for a Hyper 212 EVO. The hottest my CPU ever gets in gaming is low 60s, and that's only because it's the middle of summer and I'm in Texas, so the ambient temperature is high. In fall, winter, and spring my Xeon barely gets out of the 50s C on the stock cooler when gaming.

Excuse my inexperience with forums ;)

But either way, not a whole lot changes within what?  1 month?  I also can't find Delta being marked as "bad" and if one reviewer leads me to believe a product is not a good one, I would most likely not buy it anyway unless they obviously received a dud unit.  And shouldn't all tier lists be looking at the same, well respected reviewers anyway?

And another question - what advantages does H97 offer over B85 which has only marginally less features but is much cheaper?  For example a friend wanted me to draft out a budget build for him and I chose the MSi B85M-E45 (non-overclocking CPU).  Was this a bad choice?

Then it can easily be omitted ^_^. Though streaming might push it harder I guess. But then again - it's a 80W TDP CPU. If the heatsink is clean it's cool.

Okay so my game ended. Holy crap the replies. Okay so my budget is around 1,000. I'd feel more comfortable on the lower end of that than the higher end. I'm going to be streaming League of Legends a ton, and playing Fallout 4 on it as well. Now with that being said, I'm gonna go read more of the replies that I've missed.

What makes it not suitable?  I'm interested to know actually, because they otherwise appear to have a good featureset for the price and you shouldn't really be looking at a super high end version of a low end product (eg. "PRO" H- or B- boards) anyway that doesn't even allow you to overclock right?  Or..?

The reviewers all say it's a pretty good product and only being slightly more expensive (like.. less than ten pounds) compared to H81 boards I would say it's pretty good value.  Or is there something low quality about it that might fail sooner?

only Z-boards allow OCing of Core i* series chips whereas almost all intel boards allow OCing of the Pentium G3258

not that B85 are bad - simply not what I personally go with. I prefer H97 for the most part.

I looked up some of the build suggestions and am definitely going to make some changes. It's looking like possibly an i5 with the R9 390. I'll probably also downgrade the ssd and grab an hdd as well. I have to go visit my girlfriend at work, thank you all so much for the help. I'll be back to reply with a new build that has all of your suggestions and will continue to ask for opinions and updates. Thanks again! :)

Well - if you haven't OCed a CPU before go with either the 4460 or the Xeon since a 4690K relies on an OC. You can get a cheaper SSD - yeah. I'll probably be going to sleep in about half an hour so it might take up to 24 hours to get a reply from me.
