only Z-boards allow OCing of Core i* series chips whereas almost all intel boards allow OCing of the Pentium G3258

not that B85 are bad - simply not what I personally go with. I prefer H97 for the most part.

Well yes I know which chipsets allow overclocking of which processors ;)

My reason for suggesting it is simply because it's rather cheaper and on a budget build that matters, right?

Either way, TL;DR for the thread - use the builds that other people have posted and don't listen to my nonsense!

Okay, let me tear this post apart as it's a lot of false and misleading info.

1 - it looks bad

2 - R9 380 is 10-15% faster than a 960 and can actually use 4 GB of memory - 960 is incapable of both that and A-sync Compute making it useless in DX12

3 - CX is not okay - CX is a fire hazard.

I agree that the r9 380 is better in general, but that doesn't mean buying the 960 is a terrible option. As for the CX series, I agree that this build should have a better PSU in it. My words may have been misleading, but the CX series still works. As long as you don't do any crazy overclocking with it or anything then it should be fine.Like I said it's as basic as I'd go

I forgot the username but I can link you to 2 guys who had the CX blow up on the, actually blow up - with sparks and smoke, in a system running all stock clocks with more than enough headroom.

960 doesn't make as much sense when you can get the 380 for the same price.

The one downside to the Xeon builds is the Xeon E3-1231v3 doesn't have an integrated GPU, so you don't have Intel Quick Sync, which I believe can stream at 720p strictly using the integrated GPU like you'd get on an LGA 1150/1151/1155 i5 or i7. If you want to stream at 1080p or 1080i I think Quick Sync wouldn't do it and the hyperthreads of an E3-1231v3 would really help out. I have the E3-1231v3 and it's awesome for gaming and video compression, though I don't care anything about streaming and haven't tried it for that.

I might just go with this exact build. Except I know for a fact I won't be needing a 1 TB harddrive, as I don't download loads and loads of games that take up huge amounts of space. Why is the memory 1333? I don't really know what that means but I thought 1600 was more standard xD again, I have no idea. I've also never heard of this processor and am kind of skeptical, but a lot of you seem to agree that it's a good processor. I just want to be able to stream LoL using OBS without fps drops in huge teamfights, and I'd like to be able to play Fallout 4 on decent settings xD

edit: the price difference between 1tb harddrive and anything lower is almost non existent. so... yeah.

The Processor is from the Xeon series - a more work-oriented CPU but this particular model is basically an i7 4770 for cheap. The RAM frequency is really only going to make a difference if you're doing heavy workloads such as high resolution video editing and rendering and even then the difference between 1333 and 1600 is non-existent. I think you should be fine with that CPU really - the hyper-threading will allow you to steam with ease and since you're likely not an overclocker you will get performance the same as the 4460 in games but with some extra features here and there.

Nothing an i5 can't handle really.

As a i5 user, i would go i7 if your not using amd vce or going to use shadowplay to stream whenever that gets here.

Its just the easiest way to stream imo.

@OP

So in this case the xeon is the way to go if your not overclocking.

Xeon would be a better bet in this case - fits the budget unlike an i7

You've helped me immensely. I'm pretty nervous to build my own computer. I've read so many reviews on newegg and crap... "stupid psu exploded my whole house" "blah blah things melted". Here's the worst thing I'm afraid of, "Everything was working great for 2 months, until the fire nation atta... until the mobo randomly stopped working" ............

Basically - read the manual carefully - if you have doubts - ask here and never plug stuff in without knowing what you're doing ^_^ - again - manual. The hardest part is getting the CPU safely into the socket without bending a pin. After that it's easy.

The S12G is a very, very solid PSU - if that explodes, I will literally be amazed. The motherboard is the same one I'm using - been perfectly fine for 7 months now. Don't worry about it. You should be fine :P

Fantastic! :D My only other and very last concern.. is the gpu. I just feel like it's overkill. Again, I could totally be wrong. I know fallout 4 and stuff will require a bit of work. I'm not sure if streaming requires a ton of gpu power either. Are there any other recommendations for a gpu? or are you pretty hardset on this one being perfect for the build

390 is the best price:performance card at the moment. It's a good option and will last longer than a 380 per say. I wouldn't recommend Nvidia since with recent news it appears they might be a little gimped in terms of DX12 support and the 970 and 960 are both behind the 390 and 380. Don't worry about it - it's fine :). I'm off - good night

Omg the fire nations quotes strike again. Yea Don has lined everything up for you noicely.

93% of the time you should have no problems, the biggest thing ive seen others(1st time builders) mess up on is the power button being connected wrongly.

I'll probably screw that up x3. I'm gonna make sure I have a friend there with me who is experienced. Just for fun. :)
