So I'm turning 16 soon but I can't really wait to get a job. I was wondering if anyone knew of something I could do for money. Nothing major but like something as small as like $10 a week at the minimum would be good. I'm not really skilled in anything major but I can always learn. If anyone has any ideas please let me know, also I'm not interested in doing surveys or anything like that.

$10 a week? That's under minimum wage (US at least)

Well I'm not looking for like a real job at Taco Bell or something since I'm still under 16. So something that I can do on my own is what I was talking about. Unless there is a place that would hire someone under the age of 16.

Soccer refereeing. I earn $30 to $40 a soccer game, which is about an hour long.

You have to take classes though, but it's really worth it.

I second this I average 2 games a night at $50 each. Plus up to 4 games on weekends that there are no tournaments. You just need to take a 2 day course then upgrade in 2 years.

well you could look at your local stores, for example here i could get a job at walmart that pays $10.50 an hour for 9 hours, but i cant because of the stupid law preventing me from working more than 8 hours and preventing me from working during the night, btw the job is overnight stocking and starts at 10pm and ends at 7am

Yeah any sport works, I do soccer in the summer and hockey in the winter. It is a great thing to do since I stay in decent shape. I only do 4 days a week for hockey but still pretty good money.

I am guessing you played low level? I never did much of that, only 2 years before I upgraded (in both sports) so I know higher level games you get better refs. I line for soccer and get $50 a game because of the level and I have only seen coaches mad a few times so I figure we are normally pretty good. If you ever see a mens drunken game run like hell. They are dangerous.

You should start your own business. Name it Helping hands and leave ads in suburbs. Say that no task is too small and give examples of what you can do. And try to get contracts after first visit.

When the going gets weirdthe weird turn pro.

Until you turn 16 do construction. I started when I was 15 and it was awesome character building and really good money. Depending on what I was doing I was making upwards of $20-$30 a hour (minimum wage was 5.15 at the time). I did it until I was 18 when I got a "real" consistent job. But imho it looks good on a resume saying you have done manual labor later on down the line since it shoes you are generally more willing to put in hard work.

Edit: I do not recommend doing construction for to long because it does take a toll on your body over a long period of time, but when you are young it just keeps you in amazing shape.

Start researching the difference between good graphic design and what people think is good graphic design, there is a lot of shit design everywhere and people think it's amazing....

I'd suggest reading books on the subject, following big graphic designers and studios like Pentagram, McCann, Bloody Big Spider, Sagmeister and Walsh, read books on typography (this is the biggest flaw inexperienced designers hit when designing) and look into semiotics. Designers? James Victore, Stefan Sagmiester, Michael Bierut, Paula Scher, and good old Milton Glaser.

Without design theory, your work will never really take off, you'll get bread and butter jobs true but you won't really get noticed. Or you could ignore my advice, go to college or uni for it and have the same stuff I've said repeated to you but not for free. You can send me a PM if you want some more advice would be happy to give you some pointers.

I live in California so I don't think I can do construction until I'm 18.

Under the table... Here it is 16 or 18 to operate heavy machinery technically but unless its a big corporate construction company, no one ever checks... Then if you play your cards right you can do your own thing as well. When we were at residential job sites, I would do side work setting peoples home networks up and tv's/home theaters.
