I'm Confused

Go to solution Solved by HumbleMobo,

Oh oh oh, I like this one a lot better, it looks way nicer than the Turbo plus it has a similar cooler.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125806&cm_re=gtx_970_gigabyte-_-14-125-806-_-Product

I like the PNY one as it's really cheap, but I guess that one's off the list.

Edit: Oh god, it's 10.6" long. How long is the 970 Turbo?

Edit #2: It's 10.4" long! NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Edit #3: Well this is still an option: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487075

BOOOOYYYYYY YOU MUST BE CRAY CRAY BANANAY!  You don't want the dual bios version!  You want the FTW version which you can get for like 329$ with Mail in rebate the FTW version has the highest clock speeds so get the FTW

well, i have ZERO experience with the turbo, but with a small case a blower cooler will be SO much easier to manage temps.

EDIT: MSI's "hero" 970 has a blower style cooler as well, MSI's cooler is much more similar to a reference design. (which is also an option)

I couldn't even find that 'Hero' card on MSI's website.

I would like the R9 390 as well, it has 8GB of VRAM which has to be useful for something. But the Gigabyte has tons of problems according to almost everyone who owns one. I like EVGA's 970, I have had a 750 Ti from EVGA before, very nice card. A lot of others are recommending the 970 Turbo, though. What do you think about the 970 Turbo?

Really? I have two Gigabyte GTX 980s which don't have any problems, apart from beeing very loud. But everyone knows that Gigabyte's 3-fan Windforce cooler sounds like a jet engine :P

I also like EVGA's cards, especially because of their awesome fans. They're extremly quiet.

I don't think the 970 Turbo is worth it. It has pretty much a reference design and that fan on there can't be very good.

For some cases it makes sense, but mostly I would rather take a card with a custom fan design.

He probably meant this one:

Haha, happens sometimes. I really like BF4, I've gotten quite good at it, usually I'm at the top of the match in terms of score now, although my friend still says I suck lol.

It happens constantly to me. It's like I'm playing in hardcore and everyone else is playing in regular. Drives me insane.

BFBC2 doesn't have any of those problems. Just idiotic teammates who aren't playing the objectives. Also has better sniping :P

Well... it kinda is a custom cooler. Nvidia doesn't make a dual intake fan like that, much less a custom mini PCB.

their branding could be a tad better...

Oh, THAT one. I would rather take the ASUS Turbo lol.

well, i'm kinda guesstimating this would be one of those "cases"

SG05-Remark.jpg

theres not much air there for big coolers to throw around.

I haven't looked at the case yet.

But yup, that would make sense here.

Then I would totally go for the turbo or pretty much any reference design cooler.

Gainward, PNY and co. have also pretty good coolers.

And they're much cheaper.

Yeah there is, I can post a pic of my PC, you'll see what I mean when I say the radiator also cools the GPU not just the CPU:

now you say, my old headset used to do this as well. turned out to be an uncommon scenario where combining that headset (tritton, just shaming them right here) with their inline box of magic, with a high end system.

theres several threads about stuff like this happening on the forum.

The coil whine is probably at a really low volume but it could be a bit higher pitched and the mic is just frigging amplifying it like a bitch

PNY? I've had a GT 610 from them, still have it. I like the look of the cooler. I guess now that we have the chip figured out which is obviously a 970, I think it's just a matter of which one.

For the love of everything holy!  Either wait for Plancar in 2016 or get an ASUS GTX 970 Turbo because it has a gtx 970 mini PCB but it's the size of your current card because they put a much much larger heat sink!

Plancar? What's that? Lol, you like my system? I'm starting to get the vibe that I should go for the Turbo.

Edit: Do you mean 'Pascal'?

they didnt quite "put on a larget heatsink" more so as "they put the entire fan assembly behind the card to make it suck from both sides"

EDIT: plancar?

I had a Gainward 760 and Gainward and PNY both belong to Palit. So they use mostly all the same designs.

For the price it was a pretty good card.

Yes go for the turbo!  It's one of the smallest cards in their line up and watch a video where they take the shroud off the card you will be amazed xD it's a friggin massive lump of aluminum!  Also Plancar is going to be the new GPU architecture

The ASUS 970 turbo is much much more durable with a ball bearing fan and all of the components are an alloy.  The PNY 970 is good but it also has lower clock speeds and isn't as good at overclocking.  The Turbo also has dual intake so the cooling is much much better and if you ever plan to SLI (which I don't think you will be doing) it is designed for SLI so that the air blows through both cards.
